Hi, my GY6 50 cc scooter when it gets hots makes a gurgling sound or sounds like something is boiling and it sounds like it is coming from the gas tank, but not sure. I had some work done to it and not real happy with the results. Does anybody have any idea what it could be? Also, the electric starter does not work it just makes a clicking sound it worked than didn't then did now it's not in a time period of a week. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.-Dave B.

Make sure fuel tank is vented. Possible blocked cap vent causing pressure in tank ?maybe check battery & connectiond for electric starter.

Cap has tiny holes to allow air to enter tank ,if clogged tank will build pressure , try carefully removing gas cap when gurgling is heard to see if it’s under pressure

Thank you in advance for your help.-Dave B. the gas caps on those scoters are vented (usually). some models have a non-vented gas cap, and have a separate hose off to the side of the cap. my tgb r50x had this hose, and a normal non vented cap. if you have a vented cap (with lock and key usually is), take off the rubber seal carefully and spray the vent holes with carb cleaner, dry it off, and reinstall the seal. if you have the hose, make sure it is not clogged. if it is, replace it. if that does not fix the problem, i'd check some carb things. correct me if i'm wrong, other members, but if there is too much backpressure in the crankcase, i'm pretty sure the vacuum fuel pumps can actually push fuel backwards, causing that sound. I'd check your fuel filter, it might be installed backwards as well. a gurgling sound probably isn't anything to worry about. in fact, its probably helping the fuel move around in the tank more freely, which might prevent debris from clogging a line (at least not immeadiately) - jacob

As the fuel heats from the engine producing heat of combustion, it may build pressure inside the tank as noted above. If the cap vent or the tube vent is plugged, you may get gurgling sounds as the pressure changes. The small tube is ventilation for the tank, and feeds fuel vapor to the intake of the engine, via a storage canister or directly to the air cleaner, or ??? There are multiple configurations depending on year, brand, and Federal or specific state emissions requirements. I have seen canisters that look like small soft drink cans, with tubing connected to fittings at the ends. Once the engine starts, manifold vacuum can open valves on the canisters to vent fuel to the intake directly. Most canisters of this type are filled with activated charcoal, which will absorb & release fuel vapor, depending on internal pressure. If it gets too hot, it may bubble up into the tank. The vacuum petcock, unless the diaphragm is perforated, will not connect fuel directly to the vacuum port on the manifold. If the diaphragm is punctured, be aware fuel can flow directly into the engine intake, and leak down into the oil sump, and dilute the oil so it no longer lubricates. Most times the oil would smell of gasoline. You can check by taking a whiff of the dipstick. If it smells of fuel, best to drain and refill the oil. If you had someone work on your machine, it might be that they re-arranged the vacuum lines through error or unfamiliarity with your 'version'. Best to take a picture before... and after. If you don't know, check with a new machine at the dealer to see if they have been fumbled with. tom
