Hey folks, Watch this video and let me know what you think... youtu.be/rxiqcpoFJiQRecently got this non-running jog running again. Here’s what I’ve done in regards to the operation of the motor: -Oil reservoir delete. Pre-mixed 40:1 -Cleaned the carb -Rebuilt carb with rebuild kit and used new jets that were included in the kit -Replaced the petcock -Replaced fuel lines (one is smaller than diameter of inlet on the carb, so could this be my issue?? I have correct size of Tygon fuel line on the way) -Replaced and gapped spark plug When I give it any throttle it bogs badly and then coughs as you see in the video. Idle is rough and is minimally effected by the air mixture screw until it just dies completely. Where should I start?

Here's a fresh plug after running it for about 30 second. Plug it wet and black... guess I'm running rich. Seems extremely rich though. I mean the plug is wettt. What could be causing such a rich condition? I remember the plug being wet when I tried to start it previously, but never actually got it running. Could there be a pool of oil in the cylinder or something?

What are the current jet sizes inside the carb?

Whatever came with the rebuild kit and they're not marked, so I'm not sure. That was my first inclination...reinstall the jets that were in there before the rebuild.
Not sure why the pics aren't loading of the spark plugs.

Yeah, go back to the original jets and see what happens.

I will tomorrow, but I have a feeling the same condition will be happening even with the old jets in because before I got it running again and was kicking it over the plug was wet in the same way.
Just seems weird since that it’s so black and oily even after a oil reservoir delete. Mixed 40:1 btw.

Its backfiring. Thats a straight up ignition problem. It idles fine btw. And adjusting the air mixture screw won't do anything helpful untill the engine is fully warmed up and the autochoke fully disengaged.

Should I test my stator?
What about the plug being covered in oil?

Honestly, put a seat on that thing and ride it if you can. If it was sitting there's probably all kinds of goop in the crankcase waiting to get loosened up and burned off, which may be why the plug is getting all nasty.

As soon as I give it any throttle it just backfires and hogs down. Not producing any power, so going for a ride is probably out of the question.

You can just let it run on the stand then. Get the idle as high as possible without creating danger of it flying off on its own.
An alternative is to just dump gas down in the crankcase, let it soak a bit, then tip the engine up with the spark plug out to drain. This is very messy, I don't recommend it, but it works.
backfiring I'd check/clean the stator and check that spaghetti you got on the top of the block for poor connections. Electrical, as Lucass said.

Just my two cents, the carb vac cover thing you refer to,that's not the vac line on mine it,s just open to fresh air and if you poke the air box and it alters the engine you have some work to do.maybe some photos will help clear this up for you.
