Now, I don’t profess to be a professional mechanic, but I know my way around a carburetor pretty good. So I’m pretty confused as to where to go from here. Recently I got my frankenstrada 50cc 4T scooter back up and running. I still have to install a big bore kit, but the main issue was it wasn’t charging the battery while running. So I removed the stator, which was destroyed and unfixable. I would have left it but it lost spark shortly after the chargin system died. I replaced it with a new one yesterday and managed to get it running and revving for a good minute or two, enough to see the voltage staying up. But after that, it just stopped starting up. I cleaned out the carb multiple times and it made no difference. At first the slide was stuck WOT, I fixed that (the jet wasn’t pretty well clogged), but still the same. If I put a jumper pack onto it and cranked it, I would get a pop about every 30 seconds but it would never get going. I’m stumped. The only other thing I could think of was this morning I topped off the tank with a gas can I filled about two weeks ago. I cleaned some rust out of the tank last week and figured I should coat the tank in some gas to keep it clean. What I think happened is either the gas is bad, or my spark plug is fouled and/or bad. I used a different plug to test and it has good spark. But the plug that’s installed is a pain to remove because I have to remove the fan shrouds. I’ll try cleaning the plug I have installed tonight. Any input would help. Thanks.

Forgot to mention I also used a proper feeler gauge to install the pickup onto the stator and redid the valve adjustment, to no avail. My oil was a sickly white, due to the fact the previous owner used 10w30 2t oil instead of 4T. It looks healthy now but it needs topped off. Right now I need it to run so I can justify buying a big bore for it.

But the plug that’s installed is a pain to remove because I have to remove the fan shrouds. If a floorboard level gas tank . . the fuel pulse-pump may be deficient.

It’s located above the carb with a vacuum pump. It seems to work ok but if it does end up being bad I already purchased a spare just in case the pump dies.

The plug was a bit fouled, but otherwise was perfect. It was wet so I know there’s fuel getting to it. I think my piston rings went out, so what I’ll do is get the big big bore kit but if that don’t fix it I’m selling it. Either way at the kit will add value. The white oil is gas leaking in I think so I might also get a new carb as well. There’s no spring in the accelerator pump so it’s been apart before I got it. Peace of mind I guess.
