it keeps frying the coil for some reason. he checked an it seems there is constant power going to it when the key is turned on. i'm not sure but isn't there only suppose to be pulses of power to the coil an not constant power? (sorry i'm not very smart when it comes to electrical). or else there is something shorting out making the coil overheat an almost catch on fire.

Does this scooter have a DC CDI? It runs?
For it to have power all of the time that the key is on (even when engine is off) then I would think it must be a DC system. The CDI should only send pulses of power to the coil when triggered. Maybe there's a malfunction in the CDI.
Till it's solved, I would make sure at very least that the coil is disconnected and probably the CDI, or just disconnect the battery from the scooter. Sounds like a fire risk otherwise.

i have no idea, it's not my scooter an i am just going by what he has told me an i was hoping to find some info i could pass on to him. sounds like the CDI could be the problem an i'll tell him to check that. thanks

Do you have a second CDI ? If so install it and see if it does the same thing stay on. The CDI triggers the coil maybe it's bad ?
