I have a 2018 Taotao atm50-a1 50cc moped with a gy6 motor. What sorts of modifications can I do that will increase power and/or speed and are fairly cheap? Please dont suggest anything you haven't tried yourself. Thanks.

Adjust valves, syn oil. Open holes in outer snorkle. Remove inner snorkle. Up 1 -2 mains.

Big bore kits aren't terribly expensive. You can mess around with all of the other mods and make improvements, but the BBK is an obvious gain. Mod the rollers if you wanna be really cheap. Make sure you tune the carb.

My tried & true 139qmb mods are 72/80 cc bbk , (best boost like 90gtvert stated) then a upjetted/ tuned carb. True 20mm been good to me so far , a-9 cam (optional) cvt slider & spring tuning . Usually get me pushing 50 mph with good takeoff grunt. 15/40 rotella or 10/40 non synthetic. Is what I’ve used without issue. And I’m 185 pounds. (Pure muscle lolol.) airbox mods & Cdi mods aren’t worth much but a headache imo. And for around $100 ish in parts all can be done. ,But one thing at a time or you could cause tuning headaches 90gtvert has a lot of videos on different mods /tuning. He’s the cats meow on this stuff.

Awesome. I just joined today. I will definitely check out that thread listed above. I have a taotao 50 as well. just put in an "alleged" 100cc bbk, exhaust, cdi box, coil, plug wire, 3 electrode spark plug (which is getting thrown out for an NGK), A9 cam, new head, 5 gram roller weights too. I am looking into upgrading the clutch and the entire variator to try and get more power. my buddy has the same set up to a "T", but with 6.5 gram roller weights. He pulls so much harder and has more top end then me! crushes me. lol. He also is 40 pound lighter than me too though...Any one every upgrade their clutch kit? if so, what did you choose?

The lighter the weight, the more RPM it takes for your clutch to engage. He has heavier weights, so his engages faster and "rips". It's worse for his belt and engine, but makes more fun.

Ive come to realize that the big bore kit i actually purchased was a 70cc....not a 100cc... :-( aw well...when it blows up i will buy a better kit. its still wicked fun! i just spoke to Mike from Scootertronics last night. Wicked nice guy. Walked me through some things and i ended up purchasing some items from him.
