Hello.
So I have just rebuild the engine, and fittet the following:
New crankshaft 90 cc naraku kit Sport camshaft New chain and oil pump.
The engine turns over nicely by hand. So no hang up there. As I understand it, the first few start up's are pretty hard.
The starter motor dosen't have enough power to crank over the engine, even when I hook up a car battery. It just stops at the compression stroke. If I pull the spark plug it turns over just fine.
I have tried two different starter motors ( both used ) I have order a new that is made in taiwan.
I have tried cleaning the bendix and re-greasing it. Both bushings are fine.
I haven't been able to start the engine because my kickstarter dosen't work either. It wont return or spring back up after the first kick.
I have tried taking it apart and putting it back together a few times with no succes. I followed brent's video carefully.
The kickstart spring is only mildly used, and it does spring back up when only the half moon gear and the kickstart pedal is installed. But when I install the primary starter gear and apply pressure with my finger it does not spring back or at least it does it very slowly.
So I cant fire up my new engine!! Any help or advise to solve both or one of the problems will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Mag.

Kickstarter Update: I tried swapping out all the kickstarter parts with proven parts, from a friends bike. And still it does not spring back up. electric starter update: i tried a old belt, which has a little smaller width : still no go. II tried swapping out the variator bushing, and went from a 38mm to a 39mm: Still no go. I just want the bike to start !

Make sure the kickstart gear shafts aren't binding in the bushing or case. You may need to clean and grease those areas. The worst part is, these kickstarts are not robust so with a larger engine and probably high compression it's likely to break at some point. Best bet is to keep a good battery in it and use a high torque starter.
