Hey guys, finally got another scooter after selling my Tao Tao thunder. I found this 2008 sunl 150 yesterday. It was posted for about an hr before I got there.I think I got a good deal but have not done anything to it yet.i feel if I can't get it running I can definitely get my money back. It has a title which is very important in my state for registration. Came with all the original paperwork and assembly instructions so I assume i am the 2nd owner. So as it sits, flat rear tire, no battery,2928 miles.full of spiders so it's been sitting a long time. The Kickstarter will crank but not smooth or consistently. I'm excited to tinker with it today and will update my progress.ive had OK luck getting Random scoots running for friends so hopefully I can make this happen.
PS just remembered i have to upload to Flickr for pics so I'll get those at lunch when I'm at the PC,looks decent though.....I hate when family members talk shit like it's not worth $10 and they know nothing about anything..... Anyone share my pain of just negative assholes in life?:/

I pulled the spark plug and sprayed some WD in there, seems to kick by hand almost like normal compression .The carb has a Japan stamp and holographic sticker on top so thats surprising. Is this a higher quality scooter than Tao Tao?The inside of the carb and jets were very clean which confuses me since the rest of it is covered in spiders like its been sitting for a few years.So0o0o next step is checking spark.Has anyone tried powering a scoot with a battery charger due to lack of battery?Or weak car battery lol?Or cheap battery recommendations?I might be wrong but I think my tao tao would run without the battery ?

That scoot looks to be in decent shape. Some debugging, hoses, carb clean, fuel draining and you might have yourself a decent scoot.

Yea it looks good. So I drained the fuel, got a new plug and I'm getting spark without the battery.I haven't tried starting it yet because I can't get fuel at the carb.I took the petcock out of the tank when draining it and the filter looked good. So there's 2 lines going to the fuel tank petcock. The top 1 goes to the inline filter and bottom goes to a t and into the intake and other side of the carb. I can blow in the top line and get bubbles in the tank. The bottom line does not.... So is that petcock stopping the air flow from pumping fuel?or is there an electronic fuel pump? There's a wire into the top of the fuel tank. I'm still trying to figure out if I need a battery?

Petcock test good.still no fuel at carb and when I put the spark plug in it gets very tough to kick. Idk doesn't seem like it will fire with starting fluid off this 1stroke per kick method.i probably sound silly at this point but valve adjustment?

Idk I have blown through every line and t. They are clear so I don't know whats up. I can stand on the Kickstarter there's so much compression then it will slowly leak by and let me down. The cam just has 3 holes so I assume middle hole is tdc which as of now I can't get it to stop at. Next I'll check and see if stuff is inside the muffler? starting fluid right into the intake valve and nothing.

fgt by Jash Z, on Flickr I might be headed in the right direction now....The valve cover looks a little dirty on the exhaust side.I think at tdc the exhaust valve has 0 play.It got dark so tomorrow Ill set the valves at .012 for both according to the fashion sport 150 manual. Not sure if that will help my fuel vacuum. I did 2 bbks on 2 different scoots when I was a newb and just tightened the valve assembly to specs and never checked the clearance. Both scooters started and ran fine.Talk about dumb luck.At that point I was unaware I had to adjust the valves after removing them.Didnt mean to turn this into a trouble shoot.I guess id rather chase fuel issues than spark though.

On the petcock the 2 lines that T are vacuum lines. When there is vacuum from the engine they open the petcock and let fuel flow through. To test the petcock pull the hose with the filter on it and put the end in a small container. Suck on the vacuum line and you should get fuel through the fuel line. Here is a link to the thread on how to remove the petcock and go manual: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/371. Here is more info on the petcock: 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/647?page=2#8400 All of this is in the directory or scoot far in the floating menu to your left.

Another day another failed attempt.Adjusting the valves did nothing. Posted it for sale😑

I pulled the exhaust to check for clogs.still behaves the same without the pipe connected.I get 1 normal kick then it's to high compression until it leaks out. Can't check compression because my adapter isn't that small. Checked valves a 2nd time and they are still good. Throwing in the towel.
