Hi, I bought a 2004 (like a jog?) that was a non-runner, of a bit of a fun project. Except the fun has run out I've followed the service manual fault finding and got nowhere. I've replaced pickup coil, stator, ignition switch, plug, coil. I've checked earth's everywhere. I've checked voltage at all the key points before the pick up coil and it's 12+v I've gone right through the circuit and there's continuity everywhere. I'm no electrical expert (if it's not already obvious!) Any advice?

You’re getting V at the spark plug hat?

First of all, the engine must be grounded. It should have negative voltage all over it. Check continuity between the negative lead (-) where the battery connects and the engine itself. The continuity should be there. Also, check the continuity between positive lead (+) and the engine. there should not be any continuity.
Also, put the spark plug into the engine. There should be no continuity between it's tail (is that how it's called?) and the engine block.
Check for loose wires or incorrect wiring.
Does engine the turn over with electric starter? How about try disconnecting the battery at all and use the kickstarter to start it.
Get the spark plug out of the dedicated hole, place it on top of the engine block (to ground it) and turn the engine over a couple of times. look for a blue spark.
How did you find out that there is no spark? Are you sure that everything is connected properly?

You didn't mention the kill switch, so make sure the kill switch is good.

I only managed a few checks over the weekend due to work. With ignition in OFF I've got good 12v between-ve battery and everything up to and including CDI. Nothing after this (but would I expect anything?) Good continuity between-ve battery and everywhere. However, between +ve battery I get a crackling, not a solid beep, across every earth, including the block. What's this testing, and could this suggest something? Thanks for your patience!!

And no kill switch as such, just a starter switch which tests fine. And no switch on the stand.

And when I say I've got good 12v, I mean with the multimeter black lead on the battery negative, and the red lead on the circuit. With the red multimeter on the +ve battery, and the black lead on the circuit, I get 12v everywhere

My instinct say says the cdi box, you didn't mention trying to change that. You said you changed everything else which leaves the cdi.

I,he ran a Yamaha scoot for years without to many electric probs, but here's what I know the main engine earth is on the starter remove clean and replace, the other source of grief was the earth wire to the coil, and strangely if you put the brake light bulb in wrong that will kill it stone dead.the cdi is normally rock solid and unlikely to be your problem.
Geoff Worth a mention on some scoots you have to apply the brake to start it
