I just picked up a SYM Jet Euro X 50cc on craigslist super cheap as it was not running. I went through the carb and cleaned out the jets and verify light through the pilot and main jet. A/F screw is 2 turns out. I got it running and it will rev up normally but will not idle without the RPM's lowering until it dies. Here's the weird part: the idle screw is turned all the way in and it still dies! I verified slide is installed correctly and I even sprayed around the intake with carb cleaner looking for vacuum leaks and found nothing.
I am familiar with the Zuma horizontal minarelli 2 stroke engine, which this is similar to. I am just stumped why the idle screw is all the way in and the scooter will not idle. It cuts out a little initially accelerating WOT from a stop but then pulls clean to 50 mph.

Maybe you should back out the idle screw until it barely touches the slide. Then start fiddling with the air screw again, probably go in on the air screw.
Let it warm up too.

"It cuts out a little initially accelerating WOT from a stop but then pulls clean to 50 mph." Sounds like one of the jets is still a bit clogged. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times to get a carb fully clean. The Idle issue - Either the idle screw is too small or mixture is too rich. Try: 1. Check spark plug and overall scooter behaviour to see if the mixture is too rich or too lean: mechanics.stackexchange.com/questions/732/symptoms-of-lean-or-rich-carb-settings-on-a-motorcycleIt's amazingly well written. Take a good look at it. 2. Screw idle screw all the way in 3. Screw in/screw out mixture screw half a turn until it starts idling properly 4. Then adjust the idle screw to fit your desired RPM If nothing changes - clean the carb once again. Clean the holes into which the jets screw into. Good luck!
