Just picked up this scoot for a good price.. Been really busy lately and haven't been able to scoot much:( i plan on getting the typical 47mm kit soon and what not. But for some reason i cannot get it to run. Has spark. Get air. Gets fuel. But wont run. When i brought it home i cleaned the jets and it started to idle and run. It ran for about 3 minutes. I went down the road and back seemes to have okay power. No bogging or anything. Then it just died. It would idle but any gas die out. It ran for about 5 minutes like this. Now will not start at all. Iv taken the carb apart. Cleaned the jets again. It doesnt seem to be that dirty anyway. But still will not start. I dont have much time to play with it during the day so id love to have some other opinions on it. Thank you - jacob

No mention of checking valve clearance?

Ill chexk the valves and compression. But it has only 700 miles. When it ran it didnt tap like my taotao did when the valves where adjusted correctly. So i assumed theyre probably within spec

I have the paper work for it. It was ran by an older lady and in the 700 miles had two oil changes.. So didnt even think of checking the compression

Tight valves don't 'tap' but they lower compression and make for hard starting. I usually go for a larger valve clearance than specified since I don't mind valve noise at all. The reduction in performance is negligible.
btw, I do believe in other life forms. I just don't think they would be interested in a bunch of rubes out on the edge of nowhere. We are too farr off the path even for snack food.

You might want to check the compression just for reference so you are not fighting other possible bugs.

You might want to check the compression just for reference so you are not fighting other possible bugs. installed a 47mm kit. Brand new carb. Vaccum petcock replaced with a normal one. New air filter. It still will not run. I adjusted the valves. As well. It will only idle. Any gas just dies out instantly. Iv been mesing with it all fay and for about 30 seconds it reved up like it should then died and no longer will rev anymore. Just idles. Double checked the spark again. Looks great. Im not sure what else it could be.

Camshaft timing is a frequent bug, since timing marks are sometimes off. Verify your TDC mark is correct.

Did you change jets in the carb? Bigger bore needs bigger gas.

700 miles nahhhh your carb job . If you have spark good clean fuel in should start More than likely your carb job is the issue not saying you did it wrong just back track . Prime the fuel bowl and manually choke it it will fire up .

How is the diaphragm in the carb? If not seated right or has a hole it won't let the engine rev.
