Few weeks ago I had a gas leak on my 50cc Tao Tao. Got it fixed. It was the valve on the carb and the petcock was bad. Ever since then I've noticed a dramatic change in the speed of my scooter. I had the carb cleaned and still no change. It just seems to be running very sluggish at times. Any ideas on what to do next?

It sure seems to be related to the repairs you named. So, the Questions are Coming for You! Is there any change in idle? Is there part of the throttle range that never (now) has any effect? Tell as about when any change in sound occurs.

Still idles just fine and still starts right up. Has a slight hesitation like a split second when I give it throttle. Other than that no other change in sound or anything.

How well did you clean the carb? Did you pull the A/F screw? Maybe it needs a slight tweak so you have a smooth rev off idle.

I had it cleaned at a scooter shop. You think giving the AF screw on the carb a slight turn will help?

Before you mess with it take it back to the scooter shop.

Yeah to that. The shop that cleaned and installed a new needle & float(or whatever) may have installed one that lowered the fuel level in the float bowl. They all look alike, but the level could be limited by poor installation, sticking needle, jammed float, three banana peels and a stub of carrot. You never know... I bet your fuel level in the float bowl is too low, causing a lean mix, and loss of power. OTOH, check your fuel flow from the tank, at the carb inlet. Full diameter flow is acceptable, a dribble is not. tom
