My city is #1 for worst roads in the country and I'm not going to be able to ride daily with this total piece on the rear.
Can someone tell me who makes the absolute tallest and softest rear shock? The shop descriptions don't really say anything besides "improved ride" or "adjustable" and I need the maximum for sure.
How about forks too?

With the forks you could try using lighter weight fork oil. It would make the action softer for not a lot of money.

Stiffer, not softer. Avoid the potholes and slowdown. Soft suspension will get you tossed off the bike when it bottoms out

This is SF. Besides the 50 year-old pavement there is a construction boom and many, many blocks simulate offroading while they're torn up.
Does nobody soften their ride?

Soften not many of us ,Make them work yes dampen and control like they should . On your ZUMA your having issue with that tire size ? Hmm is that shock blown ?

Soften not many of us ,Make them work yes dampen and control like they should . On your ZUMA your having issue with that tire size ? Hmm is that shock blown ? Nothing is blown, it’s only at 1100 miles at this point. Like I said these streets are kinda like off-roading. Dual sport and adv bikes are everywhere.

As was mentioned a couple times here, a softer ride doesn't necessary equate to softer shocks. I can tell right away that your best bet is to buy the "improved ride".
Still, you can diagnose your suspension if you put in a little effort. Your front and rear suspensions will give different effects.
The front deals with jolts coming through the handlebars, help with turning and either help save you or help put you on the ground. The rear is what puts the jolts through your backbone.
FOR REAR SUSPENSION: I assume your machine has one coil spring over shock in the rear. Probably a basic hydraulic shock. Any sort of adjustments would worth adjusting. Look for any adjustments as in spring preload, rebound dampening, compression dampening.
Is the rough ride due to bottoming out (spring problem) or dampening harshness (shock problem).
Look at the shock to see if it has a rubber bump stop on the shock rod. If so, slide it down the rod to the shock body. Do a test ride on a average route. If the bump stop has been pushed all the way back to the end then your bottoming out and you need to add spring preload or get a stiffer spring. If the bump stop has not been pushed all the way back then your not bottoming out and need to address the harsh shock. I have used a zip tie for testing on the shock rod if there is no bump stop but there is a risk of damaging the shock rod end seal on a hard bottoming.

That is some thick spring wire right there. Looks like you would have maybe 2"-2 1/4" of compression before coil binding. Say 1" of sag on the machine and you have a guess-tamate of maybe 1" -1/4" of rear travel. Not much travel to work with.

I bought this one with an Stage 6 riser to go with it. I haven’t put it on yet because it’s not here, but am concerned someone left feedback saying it’s like a “pogo stick”. They probably didn’t/don’t know how to tune it correctly..
