Whats up guys. I had a t10 /168 led bulb laying around so i stuck it in the licence plate bulb spot and i really like the color and brightness. But it is too long for the cover to fit over it so i have to get some shorter ones. But the problem i have is at idle the bulb didnt light up. Only when i revved it up a little bit. Givien this bulb has like 15 individual leds on it so maybe there wasn't enough power? So im thinking maybe if i get a single led one it would light up. Just wondering what some of you guys have done if you went led. But even the regular bulb is really dim as well.

Scooter lighting is sometimes a/c voltage and LEDs don't like a/c voltage.

I mean the headlights taillight and my cluster lights all dim or kind of flash at idle. Like its running with the motor if that makes any sense.

That's quite normal for most 50cc scooters. They are not powered by the battery. So the stator is not making much voltage at idle. If your idle is low, raising it slightly might make it a little better.

I raised it to about 2k rpm but still very dim. Do i need a load resistor maybe?

Some LED’s are only for DC and will have a very short life when used with AC voltage. That could be the case with the lamp you have. Just like normal lamps the brightness will increase with rpm and levels out around 4-5K.

Does anyone elses plate light flicker at idle? Cops in my town will pull you ever for some petty stuff like that.

check and CLEAN ALL electrical connections especially grounds!!! connectors will build corrosion over time, especially if the scooter is stored outside. all scooters lights flicker at low rpms due to the mediocre charging systems they are built with with that said it sounds like your lighting system is running on AC voltage, not DC voltage. quick test is do lights turn on with motor not running? if no, theyre on an AC circuit. if on with motor off theyre on DC circuit. leds are polarity sensitive. they will flicker or strobe at low rpm because of alternating + -. only way toi fix that is go full wave rectify. search for instructions to convert on here. that will also convert lighting circuit to DC curcuit

You may have a bad regulator. The regulator on most gy6 50cc bikes just chops up the AC from the stator and grounds out most of the negative side of the AC leaving a very ragged DC voltage. An analog voltmeter will show the DC voltage. A digital meter can't handle the ragged waveform and will give you false readings.

Do you have any lights that come on with key with battery power? You could tap into that Dc power for your plate light so it's not flickering of the stator voltage...
