Hello, i'm having an issue that's really confusing me. Every now and then, completely at random my scooter will stop sparking. i have used a test light inside my spark plug cable to test if its even putting out power and its not. i put the spark plug into the cable and grounded the plug, tried starting and still nothing. The weird part is, if i just let it sit for a few hours it'll start first try like nothing. I would think its a burnt coil, but it wouldn't just come back to life randomly. My scooter is a 70cc PGO Bigmax if that helps at all.
Any input or ideas would be appreciated, Thank You!

Did you replace the cap and wire? They do go out. The wire could have a slight break and when you twist it it connects and disconnects.

I had this happen on a GY6 150cc... it was the pickup coil on the stator was shorting out from the heat. Fires right up, drive for a short period of time and it would stall. Wouldn't fire back up, randomly starts a few minutes later, sometimes not at all for an hour or so.
Replaced stator, fixed everything. Other sources led me to believe that the coil inside the pickup was shorting, and this leaves no signal to the CDI to fire the coil/plug.

Its the rubber piece that attaches to the spark plug. When the engine is running twist the cable and see if its your problem.

I just recently had the same issue on my 1e40qmb bike. Same issues, would run sometimes and cut in and out because of spark. Turns out it was a kinked positive+ CDI wire that’s close to where the seat barrel comes on and off. Was probably from taking the seat on and off so many times. Kept the original CDI on and repaired the wire with electrical tape. Spark good as new.. well, not cutting out intermittently.

I tried changing the spark plug cable and cap, still nothing. These comments got me thinking but sadly im not that great with this electrical lingo. i'v been testing here and there and i found something interesting, i'd like to hear what your thoughts are. As you can see the light is much brighter on things that seem to be working properly. Here is a video: youtu.be/Uw1xLsr1hZEalso the fucked up noise my scooter is making isnt because its broken, my spark plug is just not in the cylinder.

What are the clips on the first thing you tested?? Hard to tell... and the 2nd thing tested looks like a starter solenoid connected directly to the battery. So when you tested that red wire you were getting full volts from the battery. I think...
But maybe test the plug's spark and see if its a weak yellow or orange, or see if it's snappy and blue. Could be the ignition coil itself shorting out, like the pickup coil did on mine. Do you have another ignition coil to test?

check the wire that sends the signal to the coil. on the outside, it might look fine. however, internally (within the insulation) the wire could be oxidized or broken, but the insulation hides it.

I agree with repherence2 and dexameth check the pick up wire going to the coil and clean the magnet on your woodruff key and pick up metal for the magnet as oil tends to build up in that area if your still running the oil pump. My problem was a kinked wire near the CDI box as stated before, but I also picked up a new coil from scootertuning.ca Just scroll down to your bike if it’s listed (I use the Vento Triton/Zip because an Rx8 is not on there but is essentially the same scoot) it will show all parts they have for it. I picked up a “Naruku” coil rated at 31k compared to stock 16k and it doesn’t miss a beat now way up in the 10k+ rpm range. Price was $20. Recommend.
