I haven't posted in a while but i have been lurking in the shadows, Recently my o4 metropolitan has given me troubles, It initially started running poor after a long run at top speed but would recover fairly quick after pulling to the side of the road for maybe a minuet. This only occurred when running at top speed for over a mile, I was able to recreate the problem by running the same scenario over and over. I decided it was a weak Fuel pump and ordered a knock off from Amazon. My scooter was again running 100 %, but a week later it quit a mile from the house and didn't restart. I determined the knock off fuel pump failed, the pump was running but not pumping fuel. Sadly during my diagnosis I believe i shorted the ECU and caused the signal to the fuel pump to short out internally. I have since ordered a OEM fuel pump. With the exception of the fuel pump circuit the ECU is completely operational. Powering the fuel pump without going thru the ECU should not be a problem. The problem is... without the fuel pump wires being connected, the entire circuit is open and nothing works at all. Maybe the easy solution is to look for a used ECU and get back to riding. Any ideas are greatly appreciated

There is no power to the fuel pump when the engine is running. There is power initially when the key is turned ON , the fuel pump will (thump) operate for maybe 10 seconds, but when I start the scooter the pump fails to operate . I swapped the fuel pump from my other metropolitan and same condition occurred so it cant be the pump, But when i swap the ECU from my other scooter everything is working fine.
Then i put the ECU from the problem scooter to my good scooter the problem followed. ( in other words the problem is following the ECU).
What I think I've discovered is by design, the fuel pump turns on each time the key is turned On, for only around 10 seconds so the carb can prime if needed, then it stops, Then when the motor is started the fuel pump should continually run. Im guessing this is for safety so if the motor isn't running the fuel pump is off.

Pump does not constantly run. Yes you are correct in its operation.
Does it not start when hooked up?

I'd try another ECU. Whatever circuit shouldn't make the whole thing open if it's not working. The whole thing is wired in parallel. it just wouldn't do that. But replacing the ECU if it doesn't reset is the right way to fix it.

But replacing the ECU if it doesn't reset is the right way to fix it. I have the original ECU which has the lower rpm limiter I’ll probably just use it. The ECU. That I was using was a 2008 model which helped a little with RPM and a couple MPH.

But that would be the clean fix. You really don't want to start messing around with a black box, the ECU. Since you can't get in there, all you can do is replace it.

Heck I even have a one of those ncy units you can have for cheap. If it'll work. Pancakes?

Are you saying i can tap into the black wire / white stripe to power the fuel pump and continue running the ECU with the bad Fuel pump driver ?
