Hi guys, I have a 2003 Honda X8R-S, and I was looking for a little more performance. After some research I was able to conclude that one of the first "upgrades" I can do without spending a lot of money is to change the cdi to unrestrict the motorcycle. However the only specific cdi for this motorcycle is one from Malossi which costs €150. In another forum they told me that the cdi did not have to be specific to my bike, but I'm afraid to buy it and end up not work. The same person also told me that it could be, for example, a cdi for the Peugeot Speedfight 2, because they have similar engines. I found this cdi: www.maxiscoot.com/cdi-d-brid-naraku-peugeot-speedfight-2-trekker-nk390-03-3.htmlIf anyone could clarify me on this subject, whether or not it would work for my Honda ... Thank you, João bastos.

Hello again Joao! I have researched similar in the past with my Honda. I am running a Dio unrestricted CDI, which, a few years ago had the same part number as the Peugeot Speedfight 2. I believe that that engine is the same engine with only minor differences.
For $20 US, I would not hesitate. I was told that the Dio CDI would not work on my Gyro as well. Told by idiots who know nothing. They could not say why. It works very well and can easily match my rpm needs. (10,000+ a bit, with current pipe.) I have since mapped it's curve...nearly identical to every 2T 49CC I have seen...most vary in the middle from my experience, whilst retarding. Much of that variation is from "noise". (Electrical interference, like from bad grounding or cracked wire insulation)
Ensuring that it has no rpm limiter is the important part. The advance/retard curve will likely not be an issue.
Just do it! Looks like the plug connector is the same.

Just upgrade CDI and Vario, leave the rest stock. It will do 80kmh then and will be reliable too.
