I was cruising around then the beast died in traffic. Had to walk it home a few blocks. It cranks over good and if I use the throttle it runs for a second but doesnt stay running. It has 1900 miles and I use ethanol free gas. Could it be the filter is plugged? Just trying to get ideas before I get into it tomorrow. Tao tao vip 49cc 4 T. Any help is appreciated!

Before you go shotgun replacing parts on wild guesses, figure out what is actually wrong. Follow the troubleshooting charts in the service manual. Don't skip any steps or ASSUME anything.

No shotgunning: just wondering if its reasonable for a scoot with 1900 miles can it be reliable regarding the fuel filter.Trying to get ideas for when I tear it apart.I already have partial spark cuz it wants to start if I do the throttle. Its so annoying.

Highly doubtful it the fuel filter unless maybe you are fueling from a dirty gas can or by some very odd chance got some bad fuel at the filling station, I just changed one on a scooter with 15000 miles and it was still flowing fuel no problem. I would look around a bit, check all the vacuum lines especially ones attached to the petcock. How old is the plug ? What brand is it ?

Brent has a nice no start trouble shooting guide HERE that page 2 covers fuel.

Have you adjusted your valves? You probably have 2 lines to the petcock (gas valve). 1 for gas, 1 for vacuum. When the engine stops, there is no vacuum, so no more fuel will flow. My TaoTao has a float bowl drain line with a screw in the bottom. When the engine stops, remove the screw. If you catch the gas, you can see if there is water in it. If nothing comes out, suspect the filter and do 1 more check. Pull the vacuum line from the engine side and apply a vacuum (yeah, suck on it but be careful), If gas flows from the bowl drain, it's not the filter.

Doh! Turns out the hose from my petcock to the intake manifold fell off. Its not very long and I think the pressure from the seat put some pressure on the connection. Runs like a top again. Thanks for all the tips!
