I have just noticed a hole in the carter, and I do not know if it is by design. THere is no thread on the hole, so I guess there is no screw lost ??

That's supposed to be there. It's an overflow drain for the gearbox. If the gear oil level is too high, it will come out of there.

Some have a tube(older models), some have a white plastic 'elbow', and some have the hole drilled straight down towards the ground. If you look at the insides, there is a path that goes from the hole up and back, with several zig-zags so there's not a straight path in or out. That allows the lube to expand, the air in the gearcase to expand, without forcing lube out when it gets hot after a good long run. Same kind of vent it built into the CVT case, though not as complex. tom
