Got a qmb139 scoot, and noticed that the belt doesn't reach to the top of the variator. The scoot is very slow, even compared to my 50cc Yamaha Vino C3. I increased the rollers by 1g and it made it even slower, so I put the lighter ones back in. But I noticed the variator was worn and feel the need to change it. At some point, I'm sure I'll get a bbk, but for now, I want to change the variator. I see DLH and Koso on ebay for very cheap prices. Are they any good? I have too many other hobbies, and don't want to spend too much on this scoot, esp as it's my secondary. Anyone ever use cheap variators? They claim to be "performance" but are they any different than the one that the scoot came with? I think everything on it is stock, which means it has 4300 miles on it...

How would I know if it's a knock-off. It looks just like the one in the link you sent me, and it says "Koso" on each roller. At least in the picture, I haven't received it. Paid $27 for it on eBay... Will it be better than my stock variator? Could it fix the issue of my belt not riding up all the way?

Genuine KOSO QMB variators also don't come with rollers. Also, as the importer I (literally, me) regulate the sales channels for the product in the USA. That's how I know. It'll be better than stock until the boss eggs out; the knockoffs do that because they're made with crap metal. Matt

To answer your original question, -I don't. I have no experience with the high $$ units though.

Well, this will be my second "upgrade". I bought a "performance" carb for it, which had the outer part of the throat bored. It's a fake performance carb, as the rest of the throat is not bored (where the butterfly is). The scoot has like 4000mi on it. I put a new belt on too, but it still feels very sluggish to get up to speed. It has this thing where it'll take off pretty good, but then gets into a slow acceleration zone. I wonder if the rear pulley is stepped. Maybe I need to get a different contra spring. I do plan to get a BBK, but first, I want to see what these other enhancements do.
