Hey all's..
A few days ago, had my gates drive belt shred so I decided to clean up the cvt.. change clutch springs / contra spring and install a good belt. I was under the impression that the belt may have been slipping bit.
Installed NCY 1500rpm clutch springs and 1000rpm contra spring. Cleaned and greased everything and reassembled.
Installed the new belt and it's riding about 1/4" deep in the rear pulley at rest (belt under tension - no slack). The gates didn't ride that deep.
The gates that came off was a 729 17.5 30
The Bando replacement is a 729 18 30 which I've read should be right for the long case gy6.
Are they on the snug side to allow for stretch or do I need to find another belt?

That’s the same size Brando’s I run in my long cases , never had issues.

Unless Bando brand belts run 'skinny' in comparison to publicized/labeled dimensions, the size is .5mm too wide, and of course will be tighter as the pulleys are constant. Get out the micrometer, and measure. The belt should be snug enough that the variator spins the clutch gizzards when the crankshaft rotates. The variator should be winning the 'tug-o-war' that goes on between variator/clutch with the engine at low speed, and the variator should be down in the vee. The clutch should be pushing the belt out to near the edge of the pulley. If the old belt fit at the size given, I would question changing from the recommended size. I'd be surprised if Bando produced out-of-dimension belts. A wider belt will want to sit higher, but if limited by the other end, it may not be able to do so. In actuality, the variator may be at maximum, but the walls of the pulley cannot let it go 'deeper' into the vee, thus shorting the available length, keeping the clutch end deeper. I think if you use it you will have lower top speed. tom
