Hey guys... So, after installing a new big bore kit (same size as what was on it before) and tuning the carb, I shredded my gates belt. Belt only had 400ish miles on it. Pulled it apart and the belt had been shredded. The CVT was stock so I figured it was heat/slip related. Installed a 1k rpm contra spring and 1500rpm clutch springs with a new Bando belt. Belt lasted 50 miles or so and it shredded again.
Both of these belts were 729 -18-30. (gates was 729 - 17.5 - 30) The scooter came to me with no belt.
Both of these belts were a PITA to get on. Had to disassemble the variator to slip the belt on then re-assemble. The Bando was tighter.. no slack in the belt and it was pulled down in the rear pulley a little bit (1/4-1/2" from the top of the pulley) and the belt was under a LOT of tension. The Gates fit the pulley better but had no slack or give.. very tight. With the Bando belt, with the variator disassembled, I still had to "roll" the belt up onto the center of the pulley which pulled the belt down a bit into the rear pulley. No slack what so ever.
Do they offer slightly longer belts?
Anyone have a suggestion on how to find the right belt? This is some no-name scooter with a long case GY6.
At $30 a pop... I really don't want to keep shredding belts.
Thanks

Doing some reading... apparently Gates belts run a bit longer than Bando even though they are the same marked size.
May try going back with a Gates and see if it holds up better.

Also listen for a bad clutch bearing.

Also listen for a bad clutch bearing. When I had the clutch apart, that bearing was tight/dry and rusty. I cleaned it out and packed it with grease.. perhaps I need to replace the whole assembly and be done with it?

Check your clutch the driven portion that moves . If you can rock the face back and forward ,like squeeze the back then squeeze the front side if you have any movement you should replace it . If you can make it wobble even a little it will heat and blow belts . Why ? the pulley locks on a lets go causing a slight jerk sometimes that is the first symptom most times be for it snaps the belt !
