Hi all. I went to change my oil on my Tao Tao with my new funnel. It doesnt go in very deep in the filler tube so the oil just leaks around the funnel and leaks out of the engine. Ive done it slowly but it still leaks out the filler tube . Are there any funnels that can get deeper in the filler tube. ? This really pisses me off, I cant tell how much oil gets in the engine compared to what leaks out. Thanks for any ideas.

I have a pack of funnels I picked up at Harbor Freight that had a pretty big selection of sizes.

I have a HF so I"ll check them out. I thought they would only have the bigger standard funnels.

Some generators come with a fillable container with a flexible pour spout that works pretty well. The container has graduations indicating how much liquid is contained, so you can readily use gallon or 5 quart containers and dispense the proper amount. If you pour too fast, the oil will leak out onto the ground, no matter what you use. The vent tube up at the cam cover apparently cannot flow enough air to allow the oil to flow freely into the sump. tom

It doesn't go in very deep in the filler tube so the oil just leaks around the funnel and leaks out of the engine. Ive done it slowly but it still leaks out the filler tube . .... Probable reason this happens is because your funnel is taking up the whole diameter of your fill tube and air cannot get out, no air out, no oil in.Lift it a bit so air can escape from the fill tube as oil is going in. You cannot make a quick fill job. As the diameter of your funnel gets bigger the more oil can pass through and air cannot get out fast enough. With a large dia funnel you fill the fill tube too quickly with oil you are back to the same condition, air cannot escape and oil goes everywhere but in. Slow down.

Ya Oakly all the funnels Ive had are big enough to partially get in the filler tube, thats where it leaks when I try to give it air.I was trying 40 wt oil compared to my regular 10w30 but I was patient. I guess that means my rings are in good sealing shape.

Tortoise that would work if the skinniest part of the funnel will fit. They ones Ive had only go partially in the filler tube. Your example makes it harder to get in the filler tube. I'll get if figured.

Open the valve cover vent. Shades of Yogi Berra?

Yeah, it's so crowded nobody goes there any more.
The vent should already be open, but the diameter and stuff in between may make the airflow a little slow? Removing the vent tube at least while pouring might make a difference. tom

Some people run filters on the vent which can make filling the oil difficult. Sometimes the vent tube gets kinked.
