How long should I attempt to start my taotao 50 after replacing the carb? It's stock and has 1700 miles.

What do you mean? How long do you hold the start button? How many times do you kick it? When should you give up entirely?

The correct answer is until the battery is dead then kick it twice and go up the road to 7/11 for a double gulp and funnel. Runs fine WOT, a little improvement but it's very sluggish till hitting 10mph or so. Of course I didn't check the slow jet before install, only the main (85). Think I'll look and see if they're any simple checks to do overall before taking the new carb off and checking the slow jet size. I really don't wanna tear apart the stock carb cuz the bolts of course are the tamper resistant type that once drilled out must be replaced entirely. Guess I should clean it first before squirreling it away for a day that may never come, guess that helps me do the work a little easier.

I'm sorry, for clarification I meant how long do I need to hold down the starter button before starting to quadruple check my work. I know there's something about the bowl needs gas in it but I didn't now how long it takes the engine to do so before it would start. I'm very new to this and some things that pertain to motors on frames on wheels, I'm not familiar with. Tools go down and there's a lot of googling when there's new trouble afoot in my driveway haha

Sucking the vacuum line is the correct answer.

on my 150 I was gentle with it . I first gave it a little gas with throttle .... waited , maybe a little more gas ..... waited..... then , not even trying to start it , hit start button just enough to turn it over and introduce fuel to system . Then it started on 3rd try .
