I have a lighting problem, where everything works on full beam. But as soon as I switch to dipped bean I lose front and back lights. So I have checked all the obvious things, loose wires, corroded connections. The low/high switch looks ok. Every wire was testing positive for a ground connection. Some ideas would be great. I'm not so good on the electrical side.

Paul,I am going to guess that the aerox is similar to my jog, have you changed any thing lately?the brake light bulb can be fitted wrong/pins not in slots or not touching the right contact? I installed an LED headlight bulb which has a different "polarity" so I have swap it out come MOT time.I,he not had many issues with the lights.

This is my yamaha slider. The lights have been playing up for a week. Thought it might of been the stator as it's 17 years old. Not in very good condition. But changed it today, and still the same.

Sure nothing is shorted in the switch or maybe the headlight itself or wiring from switch to low light?

Taken both switched apart as far as I can. Can't see anything. Rear lights all check out. All bulbs look ok. I will have to take the body work off and check out the front harness tomorrow

my guess would be something on the low beam circuit is grounded out. disconnect low beam ffrom the switch. then turn on low beam. if tail lights stay on you need to look at its wiring. im not sure how the Yamaha plugs are but if theyre individual bullet connectors at headlight like the old Hondas are, swap the hi and low bullet connectors behind head light then re test, if low beam works fine wired as high and high beam no has trouble as low beam then theres an issue in the low circuit itself and all its wires need to be checked. if problem follows low beam bulb into the high beam circuit. its something on that. also make sure headlight wires are connected correctly first. ive seen an issue on a motor cycle where ground was swapped with power wire to high. on high it worked fine. on low circuit wouldn't complete and not work correctly

Can you jump it and fire the low beam up ? Rock that switch back and forth see if it just has dirt in it or contact cleaner and Air blow it . Or just inspect switch for issues

My suspicion is the switch. If everything works when the switch is set to high beam but nothing works when the switch is set to low beam, I believe the switch is most likely at fault. Odd as it sounds, the first thing I would try is moving the switch from high to low about fifty times. If you get even a flicker of action on low beam, you probably have a dirty switch.

Well all lights now working. Really strange one. When I had taken off the bulb holder to trace wires looking for a break, suddenly had power to low beam. The bulb was sending live to earth. None of the filaments were broken. And the bulb had no signs of arching on the base. Made sure I threw the bulb into the bin. Otherwise you know what could happen in the future! Live and learn.

Oddly enough...I have seen this before. Rare Earth! Now in my 60's...I find many things, with the aid of a magnifying glass and seeking the patience of a snail on a trek. I often lose.
