So I got a 2011 kymco like 50, I think it was initially it was stock. 35 mph max. I took out what restrictions I could: just running stock exhaust with one hose running back into the exhaust near the end of the pipe. I then took out a washer from the variator and replaced the boss with an unrestricted Naruku. Topped at about 45 but acceleration was lacking. I got an unrestricted CDI and back down to 35. I just went to 6 g rollers, acceleration must better and topping out at 40 mph. I thought I’d see what would happen if I replaced the washer. 35 mph tops. It seems to be inconsistent with top speeds. I’m not really sure how but it takes some variation on the throttle to get over 35 mph. I warm the engine up for about 5 minutes usually. I know I could use upgrades as far as jets and exhaust, but other than that, any help or feedback in general would be greatly appreciated.

Ap16,welcome to the forum,35/40 is OK and very good for a stock engine, your variable top speed could be caused by any number of issues, invest in a rev counter and a temp gauge, then spend some time browsing the tec section and completing service schedules.you may be running lean to achieve those speeds(very bad) check your plug and report back sooner would be good.

Lots of cases on here of people buying unrestricted, or racing CDI and them being restricted. To just make that one change and lose 10MPH, something's not right.

Yep all CDI BOXES are not created equal ! lol Cut that long thin tube and weld the hole in the exhaust that will help a bit and lower the temps that tube gives a unwanted sound wave that kills some power . How is the plug looking ? What oil are you running ? Any pipe will give more hp than that stock one because of the cat inside that pipe weighs 20 pounds easy ! LOL just the weight reduction will boot your speed !! lol It needs carb tuning and a ported intake pipe the opening is about the size of a dime !

My mistake. I had that backwards. I added the CDI and gained 10 mph. Then I took out the washer for the loss. I’m going to try different combinations. Where would I get all that?
Thanks

I looked at the spark plug without cleaning it prior and opening up for 100-200 m and the plug would indicate running rich. There was a slight hint of oil and the appearance seemed to match. I do have the feel like it needs adjusting. The extra pipe length is more like hosing and runs out the ? And into the end of the pipe that had the the restricting bolt covering it. I’ll test both and post the results. Thanks for the help

My suggestion is to simply take the top end and exhaust apart and clean everything...then re-assemble and test before making any changes. Do not chase an ugly dog. It might bite.
Maybe you have no big issues, just maintenance.

Thanks Then i would put it back like it was ! Usually the kymco's from factory come with a Boss and sometimes a Jet did you change it out or did you get it when you purchased the bike? 99% of dealers never install them during PDI .

I got it from a friend who bought it off of someone else who had purchased it from the dealer so I think it did come with the boss. The new boss is a tighter fit though, so more torque? The jet, I have no idea...yet.
Thaigyro I've been trying to but the learning process takes a bit. I can't get the damn variator nut off as easily this time so I'm having to wait until most of the street is gone because my impact is so loud.
thank you
