Hello there,
I think my starter clutch for my 49cc Chinese scooter GY6 engine is shot, so it wines and would not start. Got good fuel and spark with electric starter and kick start. My question is do the starter clutch come into play when using the kick start level to start the scooter. I am thinking to use the kick start lever as an alternate way of starting the scooter seeing the electric starter clutch is bad. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Just fix the starter bendix.
The kickstart is flimsy and will break if used often. It is really for emergencies only.

But I am trying t start it by the kick lever and it still would not start. Would a bad starter bendix prevent it from starting via the kick lever.

It is very easy to break the CVT cover that the kick starter shaft uses as a bearing(bushing). Covers are not cheap. A Bendix drive for the electric starter is ~$12-20 depending on your source. If you do have to replace the cover due to damage, be sure to get new bushings for the kick start lever AND the end of the Bendix that is supported by the cover. And grease them both. If you take the starter apart to clean and lubricate, you can make it rotate in reverse if you get the brush holder 180 out. The permanent magnets that are glued to the starter outer housing can come loose. Somehow, the starter may still function, but be very weak. You can remove the starter by disconnecting power and two 8mm bolts. Two screws to open it up and inspect the magnets/brushes/armature... or $25-30 for a new one(less if you go aliexpress). If the magnets are loose, you can find their original position by inspecting the 'pattern' on the magnets and case, and re-glue them in place using a number of adhesives. I have used RTV, and perhaps epoxy of some kind. I forget. tom

copy on the kick lever, but I got to ask this question does the 49cc gy6 have a starter clutch or just the bendix.

Just the bendix on the end of the starter. When the starter spins up it throws the gear outwards and engages the teeth on the variator pulley.
