OK I need a little help,I am almost, nearly, might get a BBK for my 2004 jog it is 50cc and running well at present, but I feel the need so I am looking at a naraku 70 kit nk100.31 but the info says I need a 70cc cylinder head to lower the compression ratio so the elec starter will work?? I would have thought a high compression rate is a plus factor,it,s not the £££ at stake here much more about a daily drive.current set up is naraku traffic exhaust, polini variator, beefed up clutch springs all else factory gets to 40mph quick enough, but I think £60 will be get me there a bit sharper, your input will help.but I might dither for a while Geoff

I would buy a kit that came with a head. There prob won't be much savings by the time you find a cylinder head for that one and I don't think a 49cc head is a good option. For one, you want a squish band style head. You also want a head that matches your cylinder and piston better. Then there's the issue that compression can get ridiculous if you try to get reasonable squish clearance from a head with a small combustion chamber.
Polini Sport is one example of a cylinder that tends to work well for daily riding, but will help you make much better power for regular use, and it comes with a matching head. There are plenty of others out there though.

The great thing about the Polini is everything you need including a spark plug is included in the kit minus some sealant and maybe exhaust gasket to install it yourself in an hour or two. Exhaust gaskets may be even included with their kit, not 100% on that. The brand new aluminum head with proper squish band also has an rubber o-ring gasket that is far superior to the metal head gaskets that come on cheaper and some other brands (Top Performance, Athena, eBay/autotech355).

Never got a plug with mine. It did come with all the gaskets though. PM tuning was the cheapest place by far for the Polini sports kit when I brought mine.

Thanks for the replies,I have steered away from bbks mostly due to an experience when I first got a scoot over 10 years ago, long before I found the form. In short I just bought a bbk slapped it on with the old head and did 3 miles before the con rod snapped, now I know better,it,s a shame that people sell bbks without the stern warnings they should come with.I still may go with the naraku kit the £60 cost does include a 70cc head and is quoted as low revving power (around 5/6 rpm ) and would suit my needs/desire. I did think that the extra cost of a cyl head was upselling but obviously not, you have scouse baker to thanks for the thread title I went in for a sausage roll and came out with two "saving" 50pence but spending £1 more than I intended Geoff

The Naraku kit might be a good shout for what you want. It is basically a standard type cylinder. Just increased in size.
