I’m replacing the crank on my 2005 Zuma, and on the ignition side I believe it to be missing one Circlip. The first Circlip was there to hold the oil pump gear in place but when I got to the bearing seal paw there is another spot for one but it was not there. It looks as if the seal may have spun a little on the paw (or maybe not). As I’m tearing into this thing more I’m finding more evidence that this crank has been changed previously before when I was told it was stock by the 2nd owner, I’m the 3rd. The things I’ve saw making me believe it’s been done before is.. the crank con rod says “Rocket” on it, the 2 screws that held the iggy in place were slightly rounded out. Anyone that knows if there’s supposed to be 2 Circlips on the crank (ignition side)? Or if it’s a big deal or not. I’m leaving the oil pump out, but do I need to put the plastic gear with little pin back on the crank for clearance reasons or can I leave it off? TIA

It should just be pin, gear, circlip. If your deleting the oil pump you can leave all of that off. Just be sure to put the crank seal retainer back on (missing in your picture).

Yes, thank you Ryan, I’m just going to put the seal retainer (paw) back in when I’m done. Was looking for a digital ignition that will work with a fan as this stock one probably won’t handle 13k+ is there any that will accept a fan? All the ones I see are usually LC setups..

The fan should bolt in place of the water pump drive pins. Post a link of what you were thinking of getting.

This is the one I was looking at. I’m sure I’ll have to rig up a custom loom for it(no problem) I just haven’t seen many builds that are still air cooled while looking at pics of scoots overseas on Instagram. Not seeing aircooled Boosters or Malaguti F12s with them UNLESS I’m not seeing them because of the shroud.. what do you think? I’m going to run the stock coil now to see how much it will handle as I overlooked this portion of the build when going over everything, the price is a little harsh too (the price of a good overrange)

It’ll work with the fan. Scootertuning.ca has the 06 listed for the Zuma your link is for the 19. Wiring is one thing just make sure it’s the correct flywheel taper. Depending on which one you get you may need a relay to switch the operation of the key switch. Stock Zuma grounds to run and most aftermarket CDI are ground to stop.

ryan_ott How much play is the RHQ big end bearing suppose to have? I’m getting what seems a little excessive, or is that just the way they are? It’s a little noisy too, not real bad but you can hear the roller pin/bearing. This is all assuming that you have the 12mm version also. I’m just wanting to double check. How much stretch did you get after a little time/break-in? I do not want to set my squish to tight if this rod is going to stretch out to much. The kit is calling for .5-.7 and 96 octane. Thankyou in advance.

My used RHQ (4000 mi) and my new RHQ were very close in play, meaning the crank wore very well. As long as there is no up and down play you should be fine. They both had under .020” laterally and similar bigend side clearance. Unless the rollers have oil on them they will have some noise, it’s a good quality crank just run it.
