Putting this here to hopefully help some people doing the same as me.
New 50cc Tao Tao. Stock it went about 35mph (speedo) and 30mph (gps).
I upgraded the carb, deleted the air box, rejetted the carb, got a new cdi. Of those upgrades, the only performance was switching and tuning the carb. I did some testing with the airbox figuring there was a jet combo that would improve performance since it was getting so much air. I didn’t see much change at all. The airbox also didn’t seem to require a huge jump in main jet size. I went up 5. From 75 to 80 with airbox delete and pod filter.
Overall, I got improved pickup throughout the range and the engine feels like it pulls at high end better. After all those mods, I’m seeing 40mph(speedo) and 35mph (gps).
I do feel like I’m missing some sort of restriction. Maybe the variator rollers or the exhaust, but I’m going to install the BBK and then try switching rollers. And we’ll see about an exhaust. Don’t want to spend a lot of $$$.
Hoping fot the BBK tonight. Will update this thread when I get some results.
Any questions, comments or suggestions are welcome.

Don't expect much of a top speed increase since the CVT drive ratio remains the same . . just more torque for hills and headwinds. Many BBK conversions experience reliability issues, and eventual crankshaft and connecting rod bearing failure. For others researching . . avoid the 50cc aggravation by selecting at least a 125cc scooter, and keep it stock!

I'm thinking that may be the case, but if I optimize the rollers after the BBK, I should see top end gains, no?
Still, what I need it to not get stuck going 20mph up hills. My area is all mountains. I'm sick of riding across the valley. I have to assume the BBK will give me more torque.
I know it's a different animal, but I swapped an 80cc 2 stroke for a 50cc 2 stroke in my bike and the difference in all around performance was a very noticeable downgrade. The old 80cc engine leaked and wasn't happy, so I swapped for what I had lying around. That said, I didn't want to go over 35mph on this bike. So dropping it to 30mph for the smother ride was worth it. Overall looking at probably 5-10mph on the top end.
I'm not really looking for a different scooter, because all my friends ride 50cc and we let others try them. I wouldn't do that with anything over 50cc due to motorcycle license requirements.
I am realizing that 4-strokes don't respond to tuning like 2-strokes. Man I would have fun with a 2-stroke 50cc scooter! lol. I don't want to go fast, I just want to go faster.

Ok. Got about 30km on the BBK. Its night and day different. It probably tops out 10-12 mph faster on thentop end flats, but I pick up more on the hills. Also better acceleration right off the start. Makes city riding so mich more enjoyable.
The one road I really needed to be able to go up quickly gets gobbled up even at 3/4 throttle.
Ill update as I ride or if I blow it up.

The BBK is fully broken in and I am very happy with it. I gained speed all around and most importantly on the hills. I can pull right up to the speed limit on basically any hill I ride. Since I live on a mountain, this is important.
I couldn't really compare a 0-30mph acceleration because the stock scooter wouldn't quite go 30mph. Now, it does 0-30 in about 18s. My top speed on a slight uphill (I have no flats) is 39mph. On the return trip, I can get it up to 50mph, but the downhill helps. I figure I'd be around 43mph on a good long flat, but that's only a guess.
My variator appears to be getting full travel, so I'm not sure I'll get any top end with that. I have an a9 cam showing up. That may give me a bit more power.
After that, I've got a few tweaks, but it's going to be hard to pull any more power out of it. Also afraid to change the overall gearing because of my hills.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. My friend wants me to install one for him. I'm stalling him to see if mine breaks. I don't mind wasting my own money, but would hate to waste his.
