I signed up on here a while ago and have recently been meaning to post some stuff about my little Ruck and our adventures together, I used to post on Total Ruckus under the same name.
Anyway, my bike was stolen from behind my building last night. Not sure if this is the right section to post this but I just wanted to put the word out, just in case of the very unlikely event of someone on here hearing something and being able to help. I live in the Koreatown / Westlake area in Los Angeles. No pics of the bike on this phone but distinguishing features are silver KN front shocks, silver CVT cover, lowered seat frame and black Rental bars. 22Nxxxx license plate. I know posting this is not likely going to help, but I have to try. I've had some great times on that bike and I'll miss it.
Thanks

Hope you get it back. Over here people have been successful posting on social media. Make it too hot to handle.

Well, I appreciate the good wishes. Looks like they payed off as the thieves were caught riding it less than a block away from where I live! It was about 2am on a Tuesday. Local gang members apparently, and there are a lot of them living around here. Anyway these idiots were not only stupid for stealing on their own doorstep, but also because they did a terrible job stealing it at all. The ignition is destroyed as I expected, but everything they touched got damaged. Even something as simple as undoing a screw to remove the battery box seems like it was beyond their technical capability as all the screws all damaged and one in particular looks like it was attacked with a large knife. The battery box is gouged up badly and most of the little tabs are broken off. The front bracket/shelf was all scratched up and so was the speedometer somehow. Bunch of screws missing or in the wrong place or don't to the bike at all. They also crashed it when the cops chased them and possibly before that too, and the footpeg it landed on twisted the frame (I fitted the pegs when it was new into those holes just below the floorboard). Apart from that it's just other cosmetic damage that annoys me to look at. I have owned the bike for over 3 and a half years, put nearly 25k miles on it and managed to keep it looking almost new, serviced it regularly and generally treated it like it deserves to be treated, and over the space of a few days in the hands of the wrong people it's a completely different bike now.
Anyway I opted to keep it and I need to apply for a salvage title as it was written off. So far I got a new ignition/gas cap/helmet lock combo and installed it. I repainted the front bracket/basket thing with the same flat black I originally painted it in. I've tried to straighten the frame as best as I can by tightening up the peg with some large washers on either side of the frame metal, put my breaker bar inside the peg and pulled the peg as straight as possible. Still looks damaged but it's better than it was.
I used to have thousands of pics of my bike from when I got it in March 2016 through to 2018 but they were all on Photobucket and that went tits up ages ago. What's a good way to host and post pictures these days? Used to have everything documented in detail on TR including the long trip I did that Tanuki mentioned above.
Thanks again!
James

Sorry to hear about your scoot, but glad you got it back. I was shaking my head while reading this. My worst nightmare because I know what hooligans can do to someone's property. I had a buddy with a brand new Volvo S60 that was stolen. Thieves had it for less than 18 hours and when he got it back (found near the ambassador bridge to Canada abandoned), you could barely recognize it. The interior had been totally trashed, scuffed and scratched in ways and places I could not even think to do myself and just absolutely trashed. Had like 30k miles on it, but from the looks, you'd think it had 200k hard miles and was put away wet from the smell.
Being such a piece of Sh*t human being must be a skill.
