I came across a mint atm50 with 480miles for $50. Guy said it hasn’t ran in a couple years. he bought a new carb for it and said he got it running a couple times but wouldn’t run right until it warmed up. I brought it home to find out the fuel system was empty. Assuming he emptied it when he stored it away. I adde gas to it and installed a battery from another scooter. Turned it over for about 30 seconds and it started right up. Sounded like crap because the rockers were tapping like crazy. It was also smoking quite bad and it smelled like gas. To find out the fuel idler screw was way out. The moped rode pretty good after I turned the screw in. Rode it up and down the driveway a couple times. I then noticed gas coming out of the air filter box. I couldn’t get it to stop so I shut it down. The next day I started working on the scoot. I took a factory carb and replaced the existing carb and readjusted the rockers to .004 feeler gauge. The carb that I’m using was just taken off a scooter that got a bbk and ran fine in factory form just 2 weeks ago. So I don’t believe it’s the carb. What the scooter is doing now when I get to about a 1/4 to 1/3 throttle the scoot bogs down and almost stalls out. I pulled the trans cover and it seems to be acting right. Do you guys have any ideas of what I should be looking into? Thanks in advance for any help.

Well I took another carb off one of my other scoots and it started right up and is running good now. Time to go through this thing and make sure it is safer to ride.

Anybody know why the original carb that was on the scoot would spit fuel into the intake? Never had that happen before.

I think spitting back is almost normal. The air coming in must start/stop at the frequency of the intake valve opening and closing. You could get a 'bouncy' effect as the incoming charge slams to a halt, compresses a bit, and then decompresses. If the main is flowing fuel past the needle, you'll have droplets inside the venturi. Said drops can be pushed back with the bouncing airflow. If your mix is too rich, you'll have more drops. tom

Was it spitting after the valve adjustment?
