Hi peps should a CDI box put out some sort a emf field that a multi meter can pick up as when I'm doing checks for voltage with my engine running my multi meter goes nuts then with the engine off I can read every voltage readings correctly Tia

On the volts DC scale instead of volts AC. WARNING: The igniter coil puts out between 300-400 volts AC when the engine is running. Very little amperage so it wont kill you but it'll wake you up for sure lol

I'm getting a reading when the the probes ain't even connected to the bike just near it reading voltage readings both in ac n DC range

When the engine is running, the AC current produced to run the CDI creates a magnetic field in the wire from the stator to the CDI. The current is small, the voltage as above, so you have an EMF - Electro Magnetic field- that is expanding and collapsing. That is inducing current in the conductors(leads) of your meter. An EMF is what a coil uses to produce spark. Feed the primary winding some DC to create a field. Cut the power. Zoot, the magnetic field(the coil is an electromagnet when power is applied to the primary winding) collapses, and in this case, the field moves relative to the conductor, rather than the conductor moving in a field(DC motor). Either way can induce current flow in a conductor that cuts/is cut by the magnetic field. Add some outer shielding to your leads(coaxial) and it will likely stop showing crazy numbers. tom
