The seat on my scooter isn't locking. It'll close but can pull it right up without the key. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Pictures would help. It sounds like the catch is broken.

Most of the seats have a 'bar' that protrudes from the bottom of the seat near the latch. The bar has to fit between the sides of the latch, and push down on the latch mechanism, which is suppposed to trap the bar. Look at the latch for the part that moves, it will have an angled side that the bar slides against. The bar should reach down far enough into the latch to trip the mechanism, which would hold the latch closed. You can use a nail fed into the mechanism of the latch to see if it 'snaps'. If it does, release it using the key, and try to see if the seat gets close enough to have the bar get into the latch far enough to trip it. It may be either the latch is broken, the bar is too high, or the seat does not travel far enough down(possibly by compressing gasket or cushioning) to trip the latch. Check the latch first, then see if more pressure helps. You may be able (doubt) to lower the bar using washers, or similarly raise the latch so the mechanism works. tom
