So here is a video of the moped right now. My winter project is to get it running without issues so that I can sell it or pass it to a friend (my wife doesnt want me collecting moped I guess...) I don't think it's worth much if I try to sell it so don't want to spend a bunch of money on it. I suppose I'm mostly doing this for fun and to learn how to do this stuff.
How about those screeches?
The tutorials on here for disassembling will come in handy. I have a few questions that might be nice to know before I start.
Will I be able to re-use the crankshaft? Can I get the bad bearings off and put new ones on it? Can this be done with heat and/or a freeze can, etc. Or do I need to buy a new crank for it? It's an engine with a 12mm wrist pin.
I guess I have to get a flywheel puller tool and some tool to open the crankcase. Is this correct?
Are there additional parts I should plan on replacing while doing this? I'm assuming i'd atleast do the oil seals also but wasn't sure if there are other things.

The only tool you definitely need is a flywheel puller. If you are trying to sort it for little money. Then sell it. I would try and avoid taking the engine apart, unless you really have to. If you are replacing the crank it makes sense to change the bearings. If the bearings are shot, I would also replace the crank too.

That may be the starter clutch or starter reduction gears,,I'd pull the CVT cover and have a look...

If you split the crankcase Too many dollars And Alot of Jack Daniels
Do you have play in the crank ?
In side the transmission look for worn metal by the kickstarter that does not have belt residue on it Home in on that area .
A fix there would be easier and cheap .

That may be the starter clutch or starter reduction gears,,I'd pull the CVT cover and have a look... I have the starter clutch and everything pulled apart but I have no clue how to tell if anything is broken. What should I look for? Bearing on the reduction gear seems fine - a lil grease helped it out. The last time i started it with this issue, I was able to drive it and as long as it was throttled it ran but as soon as I let off the throttle it stopped. I only drove it down the street in back. Btw this was right after my 70cc piston blew and i put the original cylinder/piston/head back on.

Did you change the jetting back to standard? Try cleaning your carb.

It seemed more like a "the thing is loud and squealing and working too hard to stay going at low rpms" type of deal than what would seem to be a fuel/air carb thing. Super hot. It had been doing the squeals on startup for a month with the 70cc on it before it blew. I figure they're related.

Well I'm thinking the starter clutch definitely had an issue. The part that's on the crank wouldn't spin independently of the gear for starting...I cleaned it out and seems like its functional now. In the spot where the small magnets go was there supposed to be anything else in there? I cleaned it out assuming it was gunk.

There are little springs one for each notch and a magnet In part 4 The spring is smaller than the one that goes inside a ball point pen it holds the magnet in place They are challenging to put back together .
Does part 4 turn smoothly on part 1 or does it hang up ? Part 5 and 1 do the gear teeth look healthy ?
Are you even running electric start you could ditch a bunch of parts if you are not .

Part 4 moves smoothly on 1 now. When I first took it off I didnt realize it could even spin on it until I took it apart. After cleaning it spins smooth, but I guess those springs popped into my garage somewhere. The gears are in good condition - no worn down teeth as far as I can tell.
I'm wondering if i should just get everything back together and see if it can run normally. Though I'm probably going to replace the oil pump too before putting it back together. Oil has been leaking from the pump since before the moped was mine.

Those springs are really tiny . They sometimes dont pop out . Are you sure you lost all of them ?
The oil pump is usually just the clip where it connects to the pump.
