I have been trying to find out about how E10, 10% ethanol fuel, which will be starting in September. Will effect scooters. It's not that clear. Some manufacturers say ok for motorcycles. But does this include scooters? Piaggio does not recommend use of E10 on Mopeds (i.e. 50cc) currently in production. But Peugeot Scooters from the model year 2000 are E10 compatible. Same with Yamaha All Yamaha models from Model Year 1990 are compatible with E10. So how can a 90's Jog be ok, but a 2020 Vespa not? Do we switch to premium fuel? What are your thoughts geoffh milly yambw’s here is a link. www.carolenash.com/news/bike-news/detail/what-exactly-is-e10-fuel-and-what-does-it-mean-for-me

The only issues with ethanol in fuel are it's less potent, it's harder on gaskets, and it attracts water. If you're already running E5 going to E10 doubt you guys will notice any difference. The usual still applies, keep fresh gas in the scoot and drain the fuel system before storing.

I wasn’t aware of this! According to that link you sent the bw’s will be ok or though it sits very close to the year they made Yamaha’s compatible so I’m not so sure. Iv only run this bike on Esso synergy 99 witch I don’t think has ethanol in it. And I don’t think they are dropping that fuel so I’ll continue with it and keep my eye out at the pumps

Esso super unleaded petrol (Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded 97 and Synergy Supreme+ 99 ) is ethanol free (except in Devon, Cornwall, the Teesside area, Scotland and NW England). I know shell premium fuel has ethanol in it. I wonder if when E10 comes in, the fuel companies will be required to put 5% ethanol in all fuels? Having ten percent ethanol will really upset a bike if not used much. Being as ethanol absorbs water from the atmosphere.

I work at a Esso petrol station and from what our manager has told me the Synergy Supreme+ is gonna stay ethanol free.

Never had a problem with it in the RT or the Yamati.

I tend to put shell V power I think it is called in mine. That's what I will be using. Still had 5% in it even now. Nearly all the garages around here are shell, or supermarket ones.

Found this interesting article on E10 and two strokes. "What the introduction of E10 will do is reduce the margin of error for setting up tuned engines. An engine that is on the absolute edge of safely for jetting, ignition timing and cooling on E5 fuel might be tipped over the edge into meltdown or seizure if you fill it with E10." scooterlab.uk/high-ethanol-content-fuel-will-it-kill-my-scooter-opinion/

Been doing some research my self, just stick to super unleaded and if worst comes to worst, removing the the ethanol from the fuel is really easy 🙂

It's hard to try and get good information. Interesting that it could cause lower temperature in the cylinder. So what you would think was safe with a CHT, might be in the danger zone. Apparently running super unleaded might also cause your bike to run hotter. It's a mine field. 😯
