After posting a video of a rattling/clicking noise I'm getting from seemingly near or behind the variator, It was suggested it may be my crank bearings going. I removed the variator completely and the noise is still there. Your thoughts?

On yeah I can hear that. If you remove the variator. Can you feel any movement pushing up and down, or side to side. If you can feel nothing I would remove the cylinder. Then check how freely the crank spins. And if you have any vertical movement with the crank.

As Bud said, take the variator off. I would start with checking the vari. If the little bushings on the ramp plate are damaged or gone, it can make a similar noise. If you're that lucky, it's an easy and fairly cheap fix... but I'd check the whole vari and rollers over to see if there's some reason why the bushings are bad/gone if that's what you find.

As a last hope, I would check that the cam sprocket is bolted tight to the cam. My first impression of the noise was that the clutch bell was wobbling around. clanky sound rather than a rap or knock that you would expect from a dying connecting rod bearing. For that matter, it would not hurt to check that the flywheel is still tight. Noises can telegraph. How did you get it to start without the variator being installed? tom
