Hey all,
Been a longggg time scooter nerd but haven't tinkered much with the two scoots I used to ride up until recently. About 2 months ago I dug my 2004 Vento Triton and 2006 Yamaha Vino (4t) out of storage and began to get them back in running shape again.
The Vino is just the slow grocery getter with limited mods and impeccable gas mileage but the Triton I had a full Malossi MHR kit on. Was really excited to find this forum and the wealth of knowledge to get me back into the scoot tuning game. Figured I'd finally make an account to say hi and thanks.
Not too sure if anyone here remembers Provoscoot and Scootertime but I originally was a member of those forums and was sad to find they no longer exist - this forum seems just as great though and I'm happy to be here. Curious if anyone here used to be members of those forums.
Anyways, maybe I'll start a build thread for the Triton. I got the Vino up and running and am not messing with it but the Vento I threw a Stage6 Streetrace kit on along with a Yasuni R pipe in favor of the Malossi MHR and C20 I had on it before. It's proven to be much more easy to tune and not as obnoxious for the neighbors. I have it running pretty good now but there are a few things left to be done.
Looking forward to hopefully sharing some knowledge and giving back.
Bill

Welcome to the forum. Definitely post up a build thread. I have had quite a few scooters and setups. But for the street, the street race is my favourite. Enough power to be fun, but durable enough for use every day.

Especially because I could find it with a 12mm wrist pin which I needed since I had done the crank before for the mhr kit. I also think it’s funny how they really do stamp 49.9 cc on the thing.

A lot of places in Europe they are very hard on people doing modifications to mopeds. Even where I live the local police have a portable rolling road they can check your scooter only does 30mph on.

Welcome, from the other side of the Bay Bridge!
I know I visited ScooterTime before, but don't think I was a member. I think ProvoScooter was the first scooter forum I was ever on. That was the site that sold parts and then would get mad if you mentioned any other parts site right? If it's the one I'm thinking of, I got some info there from a really helpful guy, mostly in PMs, when I was deciding on the first performance mods I'd do to my first scooter (Triton)... but now I can't recall his name. That's been probably 17-18 years ago. I would have likely been 90GTVert there.

As someone who grew up vacationing in OCMD every year as a kid and still do to this day, I've really enjoyed watching your videos from there haha. That's some ground to cover in terms of riding, no? Makes sense you have that Heineken mini keg looking gas tank on your build. How much does that hold? Where did you even find it? lol. Yep provoscooter was a wealth of knowledge but they were heavy handed with the external site linking haha. You always had to go into PMs to share stuff. Lame, but the forum was a great spot otherwise. Don't know if he is here on this board but there was a guy in the Phillipines? who helped me from Scootertime who when by Overev who helped me a bunch in tuning my MHR build.

Working on the vid for the spring 2023 car show in OC now. I usually don't ride there and back anymore. Most of the time the scoot goes in the truck these days. I hit a deer on the way home from a show in late 2018 at 2:30AM. I rode there and back once more for a show, just to prove to myself that I'm still dumb enough to do it. lol Stuck it in the truck since. It actually makes it a more enjoyable day, and lately Ryan comes down from PA so he just comes to my house and we put 'em both in the truck. I rode there and back just last weekend on the Triton though... just felt like it... and wasn't staying past dark. OC is about 70 miles each way for me. By the time I do a whole ride for a car show though, with multiple laps around the beach, it's usually 200+ miles. It's a long day, because you aren't covering ground in OC fast. The day I hit the deer I had rode 16 hours. I've done lots of 8-12 hour days for the beach trip. The tank is 2.5 gallons. It's very nice so I don't constantly have to worry about fuel. They're easy enough to find, but people really don't seem to know what it is a lot of times. Someone thought it was propane powered, people have asked if it's for water or hydraulic fluid... or beer. I modified a stock Triton tank to hold 2 gallons once by cutting it in half and welding in a center piece. That's more "normal" looking... but it would be too low for running that under scoot smoother. roundspunaluminumgastanks.com/productsI don't think Overrev is here, but he has been on quite a few forums... at least back then. He was a smart tuner that was actually willing to help.

He was a smart tuner that was actually willing to help. I remember seeing some things about that accident - glad you made it out ok and "got back on the horse." Some might say you're crazy but I truly think it makes a better, more alert and aware rider out of you. About 5 years ago I had someone cut me off on 95 coming out of downtown Baltimore doing about 60 or so and I swerved, hit some debris on the shoulder and the front wheel washed out. Laid the bike down and it was generally a not so fun time. It has made me think twice about each move I make on the bike, pushing through the woods on blind turns and second guessing what every driver on the road may or may not do. I'm a better rider for it. Thanks for the link. That is nice being able to hold more fuel. I rode my scoot into work last week and ran out of gas on the way home. Had to get my pops to come bring me some gas. Thankfully he was nearby, but he owed me for the week prior when I had to tow him home. He is rebuilding an old Ford 8N from the ground up and finally got it running (barely) and was riding it around the neighborhood. I wasn't thinking this thing would chug fuel at the rate it does but man oh man this boi is THIRSTY. I am very close myself to going with a naked build and just saying screw it. I have never been a fan of the Triton's body panels and I tried painting them myself years ago and it is definitely a homebrew paint job. They are in decent shape but the bike is ratty looking. Riding with buddies makes it so much better doesn't it? You're about maybe 90 min or so from me but perhaps some day, some day, our paths cross. I actually have a friend who's parents spend time in their vacation home in Cambridge and I'm over there once in a blue moon. Feel like that is over your way. I have always loved Aerox wheels and am downright impressed with the wheel conversion you did. Just saying, if you have the means or desire to produce the hardware for another supporting hardware package for that, you have a buyer here :-)

No offense, but you may be the crazy one if you're out on I-95 with a scooter. I took I-95 part of the way to Philly and back on the TMAX 500 and didn't even like it on that. Just felt like I was always waiting for a crash to happen and no one seemed to be looking for bikes out there. Not a place I want to take the little scoots at all. I don't even really like being on more standard 2 lane 55MPH highways much. Having much traffic around and being at higher speeds always makes my brain start wondering how those wheel bearings are holding up and things like that. lol
It's also no wonder the scoot is chugging fuel. Most of these can still get pretty good mileage, if they aren't being pushed. I've seen gas mileage change from 20s to 40s with the same builds just based on how I'm riding. Can't be good for the gas tank trying to keep up on I-95 and the like.
As long as the riding buddy rides like you, it's a good time. Not a fan if other people like to ride real close or if I feel pressured to ride some way I don't want to. Luckily, the 2 people I ride with much, Ryan and my sport bike friend, are both great people to ride with in every way.
If you hear me talk about the swamps, I go to Cambridge to get there (about 25-30 minutes) and the swamps are what most refer to as "below Cambridge". If I wanna ride the big scoot and don't have anywhere I feel like going for a couple of hours, I usually head to the swamps because I don't really know of many other roads around here with a lot of turns... and there aren't usually a whole lot of people out there. There's only 1 gas station and I think they only sell 87 though, so fueling up prior is a must and this is another time a big tank is nice. Get in touch if you're gonna be around and wanna ride.

Oh whoops to clarify that was on my Yamaha fz-09 on 95, NOT a scooter lol.
Yeah I don’t ever go on highways and would not like to be one of the slower vehicles on the road. Just being on 45mph multi lane roads is about where the fun dips into a full on defensive driving mode.
100% depends on who you’re riding with. Had a cop friend begging me to go riding with him back when I had the fz and went out once with him. He was lane splitting and generally yoloing everything. I quickly learned to just let him be in front and if he disappears, I’ll catch up at some point. Many times I wondered if I’d catch up to him and see him on the side of the road. Total nut.
Good times, if I’m ever down that way I’ll let you know.
