Hello, i have a sym Hd300i scoot that requires 10w-40 and i poor automotive oil and somebody today said that i could be "dangerous", sincerely i don't think since it doesn't have a wet transmission. The manufacture said in manual to change at 5.000km(3500miles) and i usually do on the half of the specified interval, just to protect the engine. What oils do you poor and do their job?

It's been a debate as long as there have been forums. Yes because it doesn't have a wet clutch the friction additives they put in car oil won't cause slip in a CVT scooter. But would I use it? No it's about the same price a motorcycle oil. So why not use something that is designed for the job. Air cooled scoot tend to run hotter than car engines, so would the car oil break down sooner?

After many reading i found out that motorcycle oil has friction modifier to help wet clutches and ate clasified as MA(ma1/ma2). There are Jaso MB oils that are specifically formulated for scooter with cvt(separated transmission). I will pour scooter oil but sincerely i don't think that between a good engine oil for car and scooter oil is a big difference, the most important is to change it often I ordered Luqui Molly scooter MB, let's see

Opinions are like .... very common. My take is that oils that are rated for diesel engines are fine and a good substitute for 'motorcyle' rated oils. The owners manuals do not(check to be sure) necessarily recommend them. Most owners who check in on this site tend to care for their machines a lot better than those who do not even know about the site. Most likely change their oil on a much shorter interval. If you are one like that, and change at shorter invervals(half?) pretty much any oil will do the job. Diesel rated in USA supposedly have a bit of Zn-something-phosphate that helps prevent wear on the parts that rub together such as cam lobes and followers. Things in 'shear' tend to destroy VIs - viscosity improvers - leading to lowered effective viscosity earlier in the oil change interval. Back when Honda CB350 bikes were new, the recommended oil was 'good brand of 10W30' with nothing about specials. Apparently it was usable with a wet clutch system. Newer machines.. dunno, but I did use Rotella/Delvac/Super Tech(walmart) in the last two I owned, CSC SG250 and Sym Wolf Classic 150. Given no clutch in scooter sump, I would still go with the diesel, but to each their own. tom Added... As more thoughts come, I realized that the cam followers(rockers) do not have a lot of force from the valve springs, so the ZDDP that is removed from most motor oils is likely not really necessary. It is designed to keep the shear interface from ruining the follower and cam lobe surfaces, under high pressure, high performance valve springs. IOW, I think the valve springs which can be depressed using fingers are a bit different from auto/truck valve springs.... and high perf motorcycle engines.
