Hello everyone. I have been lurking and reading some incredible stuff here for the last several days. What great information. This is by far the most comprehensive forum I have seen yet.
I have a few questions about the 49cc Moskito.
I have two moskitos. One stock and one with mods.
I am now learning about 2 stokes, scooters and modding
My first Moskito I have added open intake filter, exhaust and rollers. I am a little worried that it is running lean so I am premixing now. I currently have a 77.5 Main Jet and wanted to know what size to go up to. Should I just get a mix of jets?
Also, I know that the Moskito is a minerelli clone motor and both scooters have the stock mikuni carb. Where I am having issues is I am never sure what parts will work with my scooter. Are there any more mainstream scoots that are a perfect match? For example I need a new engine shroud. What scooters will have interchangeable parts?
Any tips?

:welcome2:
You should get a mix of jets for that modded scoot. I'd expect it would be happier with something larger than that 77.5, but you really need to test and tune rather than just guess at what size might work. There are enough factors that can affect jetting that no one can tell you for sure what is ideal.
There are a ton of scoots with the minarelli clone. The most mainstream would be the Yamaha Zuma and Jog. Not all parts are interchangeable though. For the air shroud, pretty much any you find for the minarelli horizontal should work I would think. The only variations I know of are for the 50cc and 90cc. The 90cc would have more clearance (since those engines have a longer stroke). PFS has the 50cc cylinder shroud (Part Number: 161-154). Scrappydogscooters sells it as well as others.

Welcome aboard!
Good scooter there. I have one myself that was a DD and now is a drag race scoot. You can get jets for your stock VM series Mikuni from jetsrus. They are kinda pricy but quick on shipping and have never messed up my orders. Ide say get some from mid 80,s-mid 90,s if your gonna try to run that oped filter. Unless its REALLY modded or you just like the sound ide go with the stock airbox with the snorkel out and jetted for that. You still get that throaty sound and dont have the tune issues an open filter can give.
I have parts for that scooter if you need.. Have a shroud for it as well. PM me if interested.

Thanks for the input guys! I have been reading and reading and reading. Your input helps a lot!
Here is where I am now. Up to three scooters (yikes) fortunately for my garage the latest is a parts bike. I am going to switch my motor from a base moskito to an moskito RX frame. Mostly because the gas tank on the base is rusted and feeding in orange fuel cannot be good.
I have a technigas R exhaust, with new rollers. I am going to need a new spring in the back because I have quite a lull from the get-go to the next "power band" @ about 30mph where it takes off to 45 quickly.
I found a guy around town who has an 80 jet (also had a scooter grave yard) where I can pick parts on the cheap (also got the shroud)
Next move is to get the engine switched over and the throttle fixed (at the handle bar) and get her back up and running (full rewire).
The pickle (as she is affectionately called) was a green base moskito who survived 8 years of college several crashes and she deserves to be revived!
As for the parts 2stroked you wouldn't by chance have a 12" rear rim for the moskito would you?
Over the next couple weeks I'm going for the 70cc kit and a few more things here and there. We will see how it comes out.
Thanks again for all of the help. -C

Just wanna be sure before I order the 70cc kit. 10mm or 12mm wrist pin? I am under the impression that it is a 10mm.
Thanks, C

It is probably a 10mm pin but i would still check. Ive had these engines with 10mm pins and 16mm cranks and 10mm pins with 13mm cranks. Only way to be sure is to look.
I think i do have one. Lemmi check and i will PM you with that.
