Ah, I did the walk of shame a couple of nights ago. At first I thought I'd soft seized as I was going along and finally had Venny running right, then all of a sudden no power and she died. I knew I had plenty of gas as I just filled up (and I just finished a bean burrito), so I opted to pass on checking that. Instead the first thing I did was check to see if it would continue to turn over. No problems there, ok, let's check the spark. Hmm, weak, yellow, sporadic spark once maybe every 10 revs. Ok, so I've had a couple of days to check the wiring harness and everything else, I cleaned the pickup and surface rust on the "bell" around the stator. Checked the plug and boot, since there wasn't much conductor left going into the boot, I trimmed and redid the boot. Now it's still the same, intermittent spark that's yellow and I'm at a loss. Coil or CDI the culprit? Stator is good it seems, but how can I really test that? Ideas guys? I gotta get this scoot going again. I read once before the coils rarely go bad, what about the CDI? Would it be worth it to go with the CDI/Coil combo from partsforscooters?

i got my blue cdi and orange coil on ebay for like $22 and was here in 3 days. i need to put my stock cdi back in soon for a "reality check" and see if i can feel or even quantify a difference.

looks like the coil is the culprit. though I'm not sure whether it's the coil or CDI. I'll check the readings again tomorrow and post up what I find

coil got nothing past thehousing itself, replaced and back on the road. Don't know why I wanted to believe it was something else, 'cept I kept remembering a post that said coils rarely go bad. Maybe the time up on my balcony also gave those kids who were eyeballing my scoot a chance to move on.

I had the same thing happen to me. Ordered the coil from Scrappy. It got to me fast but...it looks like the wrong one. The original has two spaded leads on one end, the new one only has one. Is there a way to make this work or am I stuck and on the hunt for a correct coil?

On the new one the terminal is the positive side of the coil and it grounds by being bolted to the frame. Even on the ones that bolt to the frame to ground, I take the ground wire and install a ring terminal on it. Then put the ring terminal on the bolt used to mount it.
