I was riding WOT and lost power. The scooter died and would not start. I pulled the plug later and found that it was fouled so badly that the gap was gone. The tip seems to be corroded. What would cause this? It is a stock '07 Vento Triton. I had filled up the night before with 93 octane. The gas was an ethanol blend. Could that have something to do with it?

i cant speak on what caused it but i use 10% ethanol gas all the time in the same kind of scooter and never had a issue with the spark plug like that

All the gas I use is 10% ethanol, no issues with fouling related to it for me either.
How many miles are on the plug? What is the brand and number of the plug?

NGK BPR7HS. Mileage is unknown, but I'm guessing around 500 miles on plug.

I found out the lady that I bought the Vento from was using 4T instead of 2T oil in it. Maybe this caused the fouling?

Wow 4T oil instead of 2T I would get it would be the problem . I ran NGKs in all of my small engines and had to clean it every 2 months . I learned about the NGK iridium and it fires better and not as prone to get fouled out from oil build up . For 2T oil get semi or full synthetic like Bel Ray MC1 or other brand made for motorcycles and never use weedeater junk as it smokes more , fouls more and does not perform as well .
I would go to Harbor Freight and get a syphon pump to get the 4T oil out of the tank , remove the drain plug on the bowl on the bottom of the carb and remove the jets and clean with carb spray ( any brand ) , get a NGK iridium spark plug , quality 2T oil tank may hold 2 liters . Check your reed valves since you will have the carb off . The 4T oil may have build up in the exhaust and may need new packing for the muffler . 4T engine oil is much thicker than 2T oil . Check compression , Harbor Freight has a gauge set for 20 as they rings may or may not need replacing since she used the wrong oil . If so they are only 10 dollars and much easier to do than on a 4T

I'd imagine that's the problem. 4T oil isn't designed to be burned like 2T oil.

I replaced the plug with an iridium in a cooler range. Seems to start better and idle smoother. Thanks Skuttadawg for the tip. The oil tank was nearly empty when I got her. Filled with Amsoil Interceptor full synthetic. Seems to be running ok. Cruises easily at 40. I'll keep in mind those other items tho.. want to keep scootin' all summer.
