I need some advice please from anyone familiar with the Yamaha Razz 50.
I got one in my shop right now that had a lot of minor issues with the wiring, dirty carb etc... I fixed all the issues and it runs and idle fine but it's dead dog slow off the line and it takes forever for it to get going. It seems like it's held back. Like it could rev higher but it won't.
So my question is: Are all Razz scoots dogs or just this one?

From what I hear they suck. That is not a very scientific answer, but it's word on the street.

I know at least some were chain drive. If that's the case, I'd suspect they're pretty slow to get moving.

Yeah it's definitely a chain driven vertical engine. I looked around on Google and it seems they are rev limited at the CDI and there is no way of derestricting it and they don't sell an aftermarket CDI for it.

Fox:
They are restricted two ways:
1) the intake uses two little reeds in a restrictive intake manifold. 2) the CDI is rev limited
(we won't mention the lack of a CVT, and the stock exhaust is really restricted)
The "best fix" is to swap in a pre-2001 Zuma engine, use a Stage6 intake and reed block, a carb of your choice, an exhaust of some sort, and a Malossi CDI.
Instant sleeper. (weighing in at less than 125 lbs)

Yeah I worked on a Geely years ago and it was a dog too. I didn't think Yamaha would make a POS like that. Thanks for letting me know that it's the scooter and not something I overlooked. You guys rock!

I had one, 20ish yrs ago, no Interwebs and all parts only thru the local dealer.
low 30's was tops.
other than that it was red and I never saw another scooter on the road for at least 10 yrs.
was it a dog ?
No, a pussy cat.
It purred and ran with minimal maintenance for 6-7 yrs.

It purred and ran with minimal maintenance for 6-7 yrs. Yeah I can believe that because they run so friggin' slow it's impossible to blow one up! I downloaded the manual so I could find out how much oil it holds in the case and it said .73 quarts. I drained what was in there and a whole quart came out. It calls for 30wt SE I put in .65 quarts of 40wt cheap shit and it's still a dog. I really can't believe Yamaha would build such a pile of crap.

Those honda 50 cubs were pretty high speed machines, most of those will do something like 70 kph, and that is when they are about 30 years old.
I have seen a few razzes around they seem to be fast enough?

Before you pull your hair out, remove the muffler and clean out the exhaust port. I'll bet it is loaded up with carbon. I have 2 Hondas that are just like what you are working on and greatly improved low end performance. Top speed is either 25 or 30 depending on the state where it was sold.
