Hey all. I have an odd issue. The bike refuses to start by electric start or kick start. I gave it a new spark plug, thought maybe it'd help. It is a bit overdue for an oil change not much though. Coolant is full. I thought maybe the fuel pump was going out. I don't hear it initiate with the electrical when I turn it to the ON position. But the strange thing is.... It works, but only in cold, rainy weather, in which of course it wants to then stall but does run. For the life of me, it won't turn over in the slightest amount of warmth or sun exposure... I suspect vapor lock, but I'm more of a computer guy. I can't really troubleshoot these things too well. >_> *shrug* Any ideas? Thanks. =/
Edit: Also, this problem has been ongoing but gradually worse and worse over the past several months. Its already resulted in me replacing the battery, which lost its ability to keep a charge. So, that said, the current battery is still quite new. Still having the problems. =/

Just been there with dad's. Yamaha had a recall ntsc for a bad seal causing vapor lock. Try taking gas cap off and thump the neck with a hammer handle and turn key to see if pump will run. If it does it's a bad pump. The computer senses resistance across the pump before it sends power to the pump and mine had a bad spot in the motor. Yamaha costumer service told me there were no recalls even though I had a copy in my hand. They did offer to fix it under warranty even though it was 5 years old. I bought a pump off eBay for under $40 shipped. Cheeper than gas to haul it 50 miles round trip twice. Before I changed the pump it didn't hit the Rev limiter but with the new pump I'm against it all the time. The needle past the yamaha emblem. My pump motor was bad but I think pressure was low because of a seal. you have to take off the side panels and seat to get the floor off to get to the pump. I think it is 6 bolts that hold it in. Fuel line had a safety clip you have to pull out then pinch the connector and it will unplug. Disconnect the electric plug lift out the sender and pump. There is a little washer that locks when pushed on a pin pry that off you will see the locking tabs to get the end off the holder and pump will slide out. The wire ends on the pump motor have a locking tab. The narrow tab on the motor got wider at the bottom and I used a small file to make it match the old one so the connector would lock on. If you need a manual for it Zuma forums has one on their site in the downloads. Easy job to do and I'm sure it will wake it up so you can trust it will run. They are nice bikes

Thanks moofus02 for the quick response! I'll try giving it a bit of shock, see what it does...

If you have a dealer close you can probably get it fixed for free. I ordered an eBay pump on Wednesday it came Friday and I put it in on Saturday. Took hour and a half stay to finish. yours matches the bad seal vapor lock issue the recall was for. If you do it yourself and have questions I can give you my number if you need advice during the repair
