Lastly..this is the bizarre looking Athena kit..again note the tiny cylinder port..and notched piston port..blew my mind and makes me wonder if this thing will even run..

Slow down on all the replies..I can't keep up..lol 52 views but not any input..so maybe I worded it wrong? Or possibly it is common knowledge and I am just a late bloomer?..

Each one a different configuration...and ALL of them are the popular ones on Ebay and from Vendors folks here buy from. So when I saw people having problems when replacing a piston kit..I did some looking at what they were buying.

Thanks..so now maybe somebody can share some wisdom with us here. Piston ports are just like a Cam in a 4T..so One of my questions by looking at each piston..since they are like 4T cams..is that which would give more top end output..which would give more low end. i.e. the small ports higher in the piston..the long ports in the piston..or lastly the bottom pic where it is not a hole for a port..it is just a notch. Hoping to get some input..
Yeah..I know the old expression.. "A fool can ask more questions than a wise man can answer"..but I am asking anyway..

Thanks for posting this. It raises concerns with me about the ports. My daughter's three wheeler was getting pretty weak and eventually quit running. I, being a very cheap person found a Yamaha scooter, a QA or a QT 50. I don't remember the exact model. It has the same engine as a PW-50 dirt bike. this engine is also the same as my daughter's Trizinger. The differences are one is a pull starter and the other two have kick starters. The scooter was rescued from the salvage yard for it's piston cylinder and carburetor. It ran well for a long time but eventually it too got weak. As time passed, my daughter quit riding and became girly. Now once again she's expressing the desire of getting a dirtbike. Fixing the little three wheeler could yield some money to go towards a dirtbike. I'll need some help to determine the correct piston for this project. I wasn't even aware it had ports as I'm completely ignorant of two-stroke engines. Is it best to just order a cylinder and piston as a set? Will there be a need to match the ports?

Wow not seen one of those in years..you gotta post a pic! As for ordering a whole top end..I used to do that so the cylinder and piston matched. Now if I just need a piston kit..I keep the old piston and match the new one to it. Luckily the PW engines have been 'China Cloned' also..so you won't need a $300.00 Yamaha name brand kit. You should find them on Ebay..cause I have seen them there..such as this one.. www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-PW-50-PW50-QT-50-QT50-Cylinder-Piston-Ring-Head-Gasket-Set-Kit-BRAND-NEW-/360693897461?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3APW50&hash=item53fb0818f5&vxp=mtrThey even sell big bore kits for those engines! Here is just the piston kit.. www.ebay.com/itm/YAMAHA-PW50-PW-50-PISTON-KIT-RING-ENGINE-GASKET-PK09-/180598907236?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0c88a164&vxp=mtrLastly another thing overlooked (at least by me once) Was to measure Wrist Pin to Crown height and total Piston height. Wrist pin to Crown height was 25.6mm so either detonation or compression blew a hole in it...because a squish band was virtually non existent..

I ran a Polini Honda piston in my minarelli Corsa. Polini Corsa, does not support a 12mm piston in the minarelli versions. But they do in the LC Honda. It had the same piston height. So I modded the Skirt ports. Worked out well.

Wow, thanks for posting that link. I may just be able to get some life back into the little three wheeler. I didn't know it was cloned as well. IIRC, the Trizinger was a 60cc top end but I changed it to a 50cc when I used the scooter top end. I may still have the old cylinder and carb. Last time I checked, factory piston and ring was over $100 so I went the used route.
