CVT Cooling Mod (Credit to USMCDOC for the idea, I may not have implemented it precisely as he would. (2) 1/2" emt fittings, about 19" of 5/8" hose. I might swap out the straight emt fittings for elbow fittings. would make for less hose, but its functional as it is for now, no kinks, no binding. I haven't done any real long drives since adding it today to see how much its helping yet, but there's a little more air for the cvt now. My little exhaust baffle. I had welded a piece of 1.5" exhaust on the back of my can to make a nice tip, it also made my exhaust sound kind of raspy. So I baffled it with some concrete screen - tacked it in place, good to go. And my exhaust has a cleaner tone to it now. My collapsible crate - Thank you FRANKENMECH for the great idea! One crate plus a few feet of angle aluminum, and some machine screws, nuts and washers to screw it all together. I did do some cutting on the stock backplate, to make notches for the angle aluminum to come up and into it and bolt in place. The aluminum is still bare until I take it off there and paint the baseplate and frame black. that's the shiny part under the crate, added for support. It's good to go, I like having more room available for groceries/shopping/errands/whatever, and I like that it folds down and when collapsed has no effect on riding and is not even noticeable in my mirror. Just gas and go. I think the whole setup added maybe 2 pounds. Well that's about it for today - I did the exhaust baffle days back on a rainy day. The crate and CVT mod got done up today. Thanks again to everyone for all the ideas, tips, and help. Yall are a great bunch here, I might can't help with the big stuff, but i will try and give back to the community as i am able to. Wow! Impressive.. The Fan Cover to CVT airflow mod looks professionally done. Some of mine don't even come out that good..but they do work. Should have done like I did and ran 3 miles or so without it...then used an infra-red thermometer to check the covers heat. Then do that again after the mod. Temp was just around 90 degrees cooler..so that should help stop premature belt wear and contra spring fade. I know when my 1.5k contra spring was suffering from 'fade' it dropped big time when I hooked the tube up.. As long as your CVT has a vent in the back..which most do.. you will get airflow across the components. But last week I worked on an older Coolster F5 that had a closed CVT completely...no vent whatsoever...so I wonder how the company expected to get any air flow at all??

There's a vent out the back of the cvt cover, and also out the bottom about halfway between both pulleys. I just went for a good ride up through town and back. I have no thermometer on there but I can tell you I'm getting noticeably less fade, I have a few hills to go over between town and home, my rpms didn't drop off near as much on the way home up those hills *edit* I also held more speed going up those hills than before, and I got back, parked it and feeling the cvt cover it is now just real warm, not real hot like it was after a good ride before the mod. There's a noticeable amount of improvement, if it helps my parts live a little longer that's great too. Thanks again for the idea Doc

Nice job on those mods. The CVT airflow is very well done, looks like it was built that way from the get go. I'm going to try it out once I get some time (it's almost oil change time for me anyway), so might take care of both things at once.

My polaris atv engine came with the same sort of mod for the cvt. I didn't think it would push much air the way it was designed. Looks like yours is connected with a larger diameter hose and doesn't have two 90 degree elbows. how much air does it push through?

Pushes more as the rpms come up, but still not pushing a lot. It is definitely helping keep my cvt cooler than before. Long rides now without any fade, holding more rpms/speed on hills after long rides. Same hill on my way home I'd slow to about 25 on before, now only slowing to about 30. I still need to tune my cvt so my rpms are still lower than I want, even with it tuned though, I'm happier if everything doesnt get so blazing hot in there.

Just for the record, u can buy what is called non-metallic seal tight also known as Carflex. You can get up to 2 inch diameter I beleive. You can also get something called smurf tube in the electrical industry. I sell electric suplies and really need this mod! Great job!!

IMO the fan is designed to flow more air at idle and needs less as the scoots moving and air is circulating around the scoot.

Great job! I'd stay with your current setup. If you put connectors with 90* bends, that would interfere with the amount of airflow. The way you have it now, the air will flow faster and at greater volume.

I think you may be right about the airflow Dan, I'm going to file this one under the "if it aint broke" clause and leave it as is. I saw it added into the CVT cooling thread. Very cool if it helps others along the way, that's great!

What size hole saw did you use? Just to make sure I do a good job when I do this mod on all 3 of my scooters.

A 3/4 inch drill bit was what I started with. the threading on the fittings i got will slide right into a 3/4 inch hole... But :/ my 3/4" bit was real dull and wasnt wanting to cut good so I ended up using a smaller bit and worked it open to a 3/4" size. on the fan side, I just cut it out with a pocketknife, that plastic is fairly soft, and easy to work with.
