Is this a good kit? I'm looking to get a little more from my scoot. I already have a pipe and tuned carb. Low end is ok top end is good but midrange is no joy. I don't want to spend even this much but it seems that this kit is about the best deal. I don't do auction sites. Also what belt size options do I have with the beamer? I'll be doing a big bore later this year. Thanks everyone www.partsforscooters.com/169-391-Hoca-Minarelli-50-CVT-Kit?sc=34&category=132709

90gtvert uses hoca Variators with good luck usmcdoc uses a different brand that is Cheeper with good results. I wouldn't buy that kit if it was me. Nothing wrong with it but I don't think it will do what you are after. Low is good and top is ok? Midrange no go? Have you tuned the weights in your cvt? What pipe are you using? The Eton uses a duel angle groove rear pulley so it takes off at high rpms then shifts for cruising and rpms drop. If the pipe is dead down low when it shifts the rpms drop falls off the pipe until you run out of belt travel then the rpms start to climb and it comes back on the pipe. If that is what is happening lighter rollers might help or you could get a straight groove rear pulley half for about $30 and then your rpms will stay close to the same from take off until you run out of belt travel. The etons come with 13.54Gears if I was going to spend that much money I would buy 10.14 gears for about $100 a $30 straight groove torque driver half and a hoca or I think kosco? variator for 25 to 50 bucks. With what you describe I think lighter rollers will make a big difference might over Rev a little down low but be great after the shift. Gears and the straight groove td is what I'm doing to my Eton

The rear assembly in that is a straight groove, so it will help keep revs more stable. That said, I think you could get a nice improvement from the variator and modding the stock face or use the Hoca face. You will probably need spacers to get the belt low in the variator for the best takeoff. The drive boss is short on the Hoca. It's good for speed, bad for the initial launch. You can always buy the rear assembly later if you aren't happy after the variator is set up. Some info on why spacing matters HERE. You should be able to use a 788 17 28 Bando belt.

Thanks Brent I didn't know if that td was the stock style or the straight groove but I knew you were familiar with it

USMCDoc like the Koso variator. He swears by them. That seems like an awful lot of money for that kit.

That's a good point ya brought up Brent..the Hoca I tried did have a short Drive Boss and I was using a Gates belt so my take off was a 'Fred Flintstone' one. The Gates belts being 1.5mm wider with that short Drive Boss was my issue then. That is why I switched to Bando belts because for me the Gates are just too wide. I do have lots of Drive Boss spacers I could have tinkered with I suppose. As moofus02 said the Eton does have low gears..at least the last one I worked one was really a low ratio.. I was gonna paint it John Deere green and take it to the Allegan County Fair Tractor pulls..lol.. It did though still have a good take off..mid range and top end..so it was not like his with a midrange power loss. Last time I dealt with a midrange power loss it was an old Vento that the rear sliding sheave was so worn it would hang up halfway in the TD groove...then snap over the hump it had somehow worn and jump to a higher ratio which must have loaded the engine. I could not see it in action of course while running the Scoot..but with the TD held in my hand and twisting it..there was a bind..then it snapped quickly to the fully closed position.. But one of these solved that problem right away.. www.scooterdomain.com/ncy-secondary-slider-pulley-aprilia-cpi-malaguti-yamaha-by-ncy-1200-1033.htmlBtw..yes that is the real price..surprisingly cheap huh? They don't list it on their site and you can't search for it..why I don't know. I just asked if they carried one and was told it was not 'cataloged' on their site but they sent me a link to it.. I have ordered 3 of those from them this year..so I know they stock them..but they don't make them searchable in the website database..because??? Anyway don't everybody buy them up from that secret sleuth link I posted..just save one more for me...

I remember seeing that but was worried about the 33mm id. Ended up with a hoca with 2 straight groves and 1 angled. Wish mine was 20 bucks.

The fan looking thing on my variator has a couple of broken fins on it and the clutch is slipping a bit as is the belt. Thats why I was going to get the whole kit. I figured I could kill a couple of birds, new fan thing as well as a performance variator and a new clutch asembly. If the broken fins aren't a problem thwn I ciuld just try adjusting with new rollers? What clutch should I get and what springs? Clutch and contro?

A couple of fins on the fan shouldn't really matter. You could try just tuning with rollers/sliders. Pull your clutch off and clean the shoes and the inside of the bell. Sand them with emery cloth or something like 220 grit to deglaze and then spray with brake parts cleaner. Check your belt width. May need to be replaced. 15mm is the service limit, but if you want to keep speed up usually you need to replace them before that. Lots of CVT cleaning/checking info... www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EjW-iSP-Q8

When we cut a finger while working in the shop..we fix it and move on..we don't go to the Hospital for major surgery... His Vid above is pretty in depth and informative..which could save ya lots of time and money..

Hey man, just so ya know, i have an 02 beamer, with a 70 cc polini bbk, stock pipe and carb(?), and its like u saod, takr off is great, and it tops about 46-48, but mid range is dead. Look at a td swap. Oh, I'm running the stock vatiator with 7g rollers. Gearing is the most major limiting factor with these. Good luck. Chris
