I'm tired of messing with this oil tank. It just doesn't want to stay sealed for me. Can I just take the tank out, cap the inlet on the carb and mix my gas?

Depends on your setup. Usually the oil injector has a driven gear that needs removal. Otherwise injector pump will sieze. Did alot of premix conversions on atv, s & dirtbikes . May be best to hear from the 2 stroke scooter guru, s

Yes as long as you remember to mix at correct ratio. It also doesn't hurt to carry a premeasured container under the seat incase you have to stop out on the road to fuel up. I've got a premeasured container under the seat of all my 2t's that would be the correct ratio for a gallon of gas at the gas station. Just my opinion though.

There is one more thing I'm going to try and if it doesn't work I'm removing the injector system. I;m going to try what 2TDave said on my post about sealing the tanks. He said he's heard of guys wrapping the sending unit with teflon tape. I just did it and put a little sealant around it just to be sure. I'll let it set for a little bit then try it.

Almost all recent 2t's have a gear driven oil injection pump. While it is possible to seize, it is not likely. I do however remove the pump and gear assembly on all my 2t's.

You can premix. I removed the gear from the the pump and reinstalled it to block off the case. I know others just plug the lines. I don't think it would hurt anything that way. It may ruin the pump but I don't know why you would care. I can't remember if I pulled the pump with the cylinder off. I tend to think I did.

Alot/most of oil injector pumps are lubricated via 2 stroke oil , capping off pump without removing the gear is a gamble. The best method is pump removal & block off plate. But dont forget to premix. Its amazing the destruction that can happen when the pump siezes & gear & shaft grenade blowing chunks out of engine cases.

Well the teflon tape worked so now I don't have to do it.

To seal stuff try: Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket Sealant Liquid, Part no. 80019 at the parts store for a 4 ounce container.
I guess I was too late....

If my muffler gets kind of hot on a 5 minute ride, does that mean I'm too lean?

Glad it worked out for you.

The muffler will get hot. Not red hot. You have to check your spark plug color to determine your carb tune. You'll find more on this in the tech section under carb tuning.

I know the muffler is supposed to get hot but it felt really hot for only a 5 minute ride...

if your engine is running for any length of time your muffler will get hot. five minutes riding is plenty to get an engine up to temp
