If compression is weak and all else checks out might be time to pull top end to check Cylinder. Might check reeds also

Good point moofus.....I didn't think about a severe flood condition damaging the reeds in the block.....never thought it possible with the ex port at the bottom of the cylinder....

Petcock is fine, I just replaced it last week- the fuel side shoots fuel when vacuum is applied. Spark is good- checked it, too. Don't have a compression tester- just did a 72BBK in February, I'd HOPE it wasn't compression -related all of a sudden. I'll go pull the intake and check the reeds, maybe even pull the head just to get a look-see.
Even tried using some starting fluid, but still no start.

If the timing slipped from a sheered key on the flywheel it would be retarded and kill power but might still run but once stopped might be to far retarded to start. Not a common thing but it had been known to happen. This one is puzzling

If you pull the head is easy to check the tdc Mark on Flywheel to make sure it matches piston position

ok, reeds look good, intake and reed block check out, also.
time to pull the shroud now I guess...

Just found this- looks to be corrosion on the pickup for the ignition on the flywheel. Could this potentially be a problem? Should I try to clean it up a bit?

head looks good besides some (strange) carbon buildup no visible holes in the top of the piston

Does it look like tdc on Flywheel matches piston at top? Head gasket leak?

I can't get the fan off with what little hand tools I have at the moment- wouldn't even know what to look for- but I assume it's under the plastic fan itself?
And by talking to someone else, yes, appears a leak in the head- hmmm
still, even if it was leaking, it's been doing it since I installed the BBK, so I doubt that's the problem here

A head gasket leaking can play hell with the air fuel ratio make it hard to start. It won't help at the very least. Is the hump for the pickup at the pickup when piston is at top?

At TDC, the 'hump'on the flywheel is at the back/end (far left)

Cleaned up the pickup- put the important parts back together- tried to start it.
NOTHING
I guess now I'll have to save up some money and try to get it to a shop to get her going again. SUCKS, because I don't know how long that will be until I can get it somewhere.
Thanks Moofus and everyone else for your help! It has officially defeated me =(

There isn't that much to an engine. Enough compression good spark at the right time and the right amount of fuel. Will it hit with a shot of starting fluid? It is a 2t have you tried a new plug. These can be frustrating but we have to be missing something simple here

The simplicity of it, especially being a 2T is what's frustrating me. I've tried starting fluid- no go Haven't tried a new plug- I'll pick one up and try tomorrow.
