I've been meaning to ask this since I was shopping for a replacement ignition for my 1e40qmb Minerelli it seems like by the looks of it, I have been riding with a GY6 ignition in my scoot? (ignore the Bando boot in the background- I installed that after I chooched up the stock boot) I tried googlin' the part #'s from it but just get chinese gibberish for results. Well, it's been working great anyways. Just though this weird that every 1e40qmb ignition I see is totally different from the one in my scoot. The one I've been using matches up with the GY6 pics I've seen. Why do they sell different ignitions then?? Hmm.. well I got a new 1e40qmb ignition in the mail so I guess I'll give them both the ol' Pepsi challenge.

The one on the left does appear to be the typical GY6 / 139QMB style of coil. I'm not sure exactly what is different about them other than mounting and grounding methods. The 2T coils tend to feel more heavy duty, but I couldn't tell if if anything that matters is different about them.

So I installed the 2t ignition and noticed absolutely no change. Interesting...

If it's not misfiring noticeably a lot of times ignition upgrades are hard to tell a difference with. They certainly aren't the MPH boosters some retailers have claimed over the years. For me the most noticeable change with ignition upgrades (other than changing timing) is usually easier starting.

The gy6 coil is slightly diff the mounting tabs are in a diff place but thats about it. I was in a bind about an hr and a half away from home and bought one to put on and it would have been sticking out through the plastic belly pan so I just changed the ends of the wire and left mine alone. The wire on the minarelli one seems to be a little bit longer too.
