It's a good method for the scoots it works with, but I will say don't plan on not needing any tools if a belt breaks on the road. Sometimes when a belt breaks the rollers will get out of place in the variator and you'd have to take it off to reset them. If the goal is preparedness, carry a variator locking tool of some sort and a ratchet and socket that fit the nut. If you're gong on a longer ride, check your belt before you leave and if it's in questionable condition, replace it.

Yeah Brent's right. 9 times out of 10 the rollers will come out of their slots and get jammed up in there from the variator closing farther than it normally would once the belt breaks so you have to remove the variator anyway.
Brent is also right about knowing the condition of your belt. A responsible scooter owner will check/clean out the CVT every so often so they will know if the belt is getting worn out.

Is there a way of knowing the rollers are out of place?

The variator won't open all the way (close against the ramp plate) if they're out of position.

This video is better cause of the camera angle and there is no chatter. At no time does he allow the variator pulleys to close up. He even shoves a curved piece of cardboard in there so that there is no chance of the rollers coming out of their slots.
